Default Blockbuster is now receiving new catalog titles weekly.

Blockbusters offering blu-ray discs for rental originally had a set catalog selection but recently they've begun incorporating new catalog releases into their selection. For instance next week they'll carry First Blood II and Rambo III. And the next week they'll have Signs available. They will be 2-day rentals.

This is certainly progress.

This is good news. There have always been catalog titles that I've wanted to rent, but Blockbuster has never carried them.

This is good news indeed.

Wow, my blockbuster needs to step it up. Their selection where I live is pretty poor. They have maybe 20 different Blu's.

In my store, whenever we get catalog BD's, I remove the 2 day stickers and transfer them to BSI so that way they're 8 day rentals and people can use their Favorites coupons from the Rewards. It helps drive a lot of sales and it only makes sense rather than pushing them off as new titles.

For some reason the favorite coupons haven't been working towards blu-rays at our store.

If I'm not mistaken, because I'm so used to the W, X, and S rental codes

8-2 day
7-8 day
6-BSI

they'd have to be listed with a 6 as the rental code for those coupons to work.

How much does your store charge per DVD, BD, and game rental? Pricing may make a difference.

mine is

DVD - $4.29
BD - $4.99
Game - $7.99

Not for my store.... we get the catalog titles for retail but not for rent. Then again, we just started getting blu-rays in April.

So did you guys that work at or frequent other BBV stores with better blu selection get Youth Without Youth or The Air I Breathe on blu.... mine didn't.

When we got our pool point shipments this week, the only BD we got was Rambo. Next week we'll be getting Cloverfield, There Will Be Blood, Meet The Spartans, and Semi-Pro though. Only Semi Pro and Meet The Spartans for sale though. My store gets catalogs for rental here and there. We do have a massive selection of BDs too. We're the training store for our district and we've had BDs for over a year-ish.

and no Youth Without Youth or The Air I Breathe.

Yeah, the CC requirement is something corporate sprang on us without any notice.

You have to understand though, its a corporate policy and that we can be punished up to and including termination if we don't follow that policy.

Yeah, what you're saying seems to jive with what I was told not long ago (when talking to a Blockbuster employee about blu-rays). She said they would be increasing the number of titles but since I was there trying to find a title early (for purchase) I wasn't sure if she meant rentals or discs for purchase or both.

See ya in a couple of years then.

It only seems realistic to say this considering they are ridiculous with their policies and probably won't drop that until BDs are half the store.

Just out of curiosity...why does it make a difference?? If you rent Netflix you need a credit card, if you use redbox you need a credit card. There are many people who don't bring games/movies back, and without a valid credit card there is no way to get that money back.

As long as you bring the movie back then you won't get charged anyway. And even if there was some sort of mistake, as long as you have your account info up to date you will get numerous automated calls and postcards before blockbuster attempts to charge you for it.
