Default The Siiiimpsoooonss

I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove The Simpsons. I love it. I love it. I just love it. Did I mention I love it? I love it more than you! No I do! No I do!

Season 1 - A - less sophisticated but really really good. Has some of the purest emotion in the entire series.
Season 2 - A- - better humour but worse animation quality and quite slow pacing
Season 3 - A+ - perfect
Season 4 - A+ - the show was basically at its pinnacle during this fantastic season. THE season to buy if you want all the classic episodes.
Season 5 - A+ - is much wackier and sillier, but also has better animation and some of my favourite episodes
Season 6 - A+ - my favourite season ever. The funniest season in history.
Season 7 - A+ - combines the emotion of earlier seasons with the trademark Simpsons humour of previous seasons. Possibly the best season.
Season 8 - B - consistently is of lesser quality than everything previous, with quite a few bad episodes. Has some very offensive and juvenile episodes
Season 9 - A - surprisingly much better than season 8. I love it.
Season 10 - B - has some great episodes, but some extremely terrible ones
Season 11 - D- - the show's lowest point. Literally only 2 or maybe 3 good episodes, the rest are painfully awful
Season 12 - C- - mostly mediocre, with an occasional good episode
Season 13 - C- - same as season 12, except even more different as a show
Season 14 - C+ - has some classic humour from earlier seasons, but also has also some very immature unfunny humour
Season 15 - A- - a welcome return to greatness. Has some fantastic episodes, and some of the best Simpsons animation ever. Cannot wait for a BD release
Season 16 - B+ - has the best post-classic episodes ever, but also has some weak episodes
Season 17 - C+ - the same as Season 16, except only okay episodes and weak episodes
Season 18 - D - has mostly terrible episodes (some of the worst since S11), and only few watchable episodes
Season 19 - D - very inconsistent season, with mostly painful episodes

Simpsons Movie - A - has the best humour since the classic era, is epic and has the best simpsons animation ever. Has the occasional childish joke, but is redeemed by countless hilarious gags:

[Show spoiler]Old Lady: Oh look, it's the little girl who saved my cat!
Lisa: Lake Springfield is...
Old Lady: *slams door in her face*

Top 10 Favourite Episodes:

10. Homer the Great (Season 6, Episode 12)

5. Life on the Fast Lane (Season 1, Episode 9)
4. Treehouse of Horror V (Season 6, Episode 6)
3. Lisa the Vegetarian (Season 7, Episode 05)
2. Marge Be Not Proud (Season 7, Episode 11)
1. Cape Feare (Season 5, Episode 2)

Top 15 Worst Episodes:

10. Homer's Enemy (Season 8, Episode 23)
9. Springfield Up (Season 18, Episode 13)

Same, I have the first 10. They take ages to release the DVDs though - each DVD takes almost a year to release - but I guess it's worth it in the end.

actually the last few seasons took only about 6 months apart. i think it was the movie that interrupted their pattern. IMO...

Simpsons and South Park battle it out for my fave. Simpsons tends to be really "smart" with it's humor, but South Park is the only show out there with an almost complete "centrist" view. However, I have all Simpsons seasons and no SP, so maybe there ya go.
Side note: Why are they taking so long on season 11? Oz didn't even take this long, and I was in pain waiting for those seasons.

I used to be a huge fan of the Simpsons, but now I can't even get through 5 minutes of the new episodes, because it makes me so mad that they continue ruin the reputation of one of the greatest shows on TV. All of the subtlety and intelligent humor of the early seasons (3 until about 10), now all of the humor is just so cheap and infantile, you used to be able to watch the same episode over and over again, and still find new jokes each time. I might actually try to watch the movie though after seeing the OP's assessment of the seasons and the movie.

Well, That's a good point I hadn't thought of, but wouldn't it be separate entities working on the movie and the next season, or would it be all the same people?

I think I've seen what your talking about. The last new episode I saw was months ago, and the crude sexual humor was a bit overstated. It's almost like "safe" humor, whereas making a joke invoking, say, Thomas Paine, is a bit too risky for writers to attempt.

I am exactly the same way now. Used to love this show, and now can't even stand the cheap shots they take. It seems to be far more politically driven in the last few years, and I don't really even watch the new seasons because I don't find it funny. In my opinion, they should have ended it many seasons ago. I would add Season 9's "The Cartridge Family" as one of my favorite episodes though.

I agree with your assessment. I try to watch one or two new episodes a year thinking that they have to get better, but I usually end up now being able to make it through.

I will disagree with the OP a little though. I thought the movie was okay, but certainly not up to par with the 3-8 seasons (give or take a season). I thought it was somewhere in between what it's like now and what it was like then.

I agree with most of the Lion King's letter grades except for seasons 9 and 10. For Season 9 I'd probably give it a B and Season 10 was awful to me, no better than a D. The show never really was very good during the infamous Mike Scully as lead producer years. I still consider it one of the funniest shows in televison history.

I agree alot with what you wrote 10 is where (and I just bought 10 like 5mo. ago) it really goes downhill from the shows greatness ... while almost every episode has at least 1 good laugh the old ones just were very well put together and ended like the family walking off in the sunset or homer carrying lisa home exc.

I'll still buy all the season just I do agree 4-9 were the best of the best

the movie was great to because it got back to the roots instead of having some crazy ending like they go off into space.

id say 2-some of the 10th season, those episodes will never be unfunny ... they should take a break instead of rolling out new seasons of junk and just try to get back to the roots i'd be all for 1-3 years of no new simpsons if they could come up with some quality stuff.

I went on The Simpsons Ride on Monday over at Universal Studios Hollywood and it was pretty fun. I recommend you try it, if you can.
