...and I thought that it was one of the most overated movies I have seen in a long time. The main character was annoying most of the time and I saw nothing in the production of it that made it stand out as a Best Picture nominee. Can someone tell what is so great about this movie?

To each his own. I thought that Juno was a smart girl who had to figure out how to handle her pregnacy and high school and life. She was witty. I thought that the production matched with the enviornment . It was a middle class town, the production was not over the top or flambouyant. The direction matched with the Juno's home. Considering that the film matched with a lot of Diablo Cody's real life experiences, it was honest. I am a big fan of this movie.
My biggest complaint, as a nerd, is that Michael Cera and Jason Bateman didn't share any screen time together. |

I thought it was a good movie.
It's not a typical quirky comedy like the useless crap thrust on us on a daily basis {see: Meet the Browns} and it's far FAR better than anything Wes Anderson has put to Celluloid. Logan |

I was "whelmed" by this movie. Not over, or under. Just... whelmed.
Agreeing with the OP, I don't see how this was nom'd for Best Picture. It had some funny moments, and it was good to a point, but Ellen Page's character comes across as a little too wise for her age, and Jennifer Garner's character is just creepy and over-acted. I think Hollywood wanted to give this movie a lot of buzz specifically because of Diablo Cody being the flavor of the month (nothing says "attention *****" like... an actual *****!). But considering her next film is a brainless slasher, we've obviously seen the best we'll ever see from her in Juno. |

Just kidding. What's great... it's funny in a situation that's not? But yeah, I liked it a lot, but to each his—or her—own. |

I thought it was one of the better movies I have seen in a while. The story was good, but the characters are what make the movie. Frankly, I believe the characters and their development is what really make a good movie, not the main story. Jason Batemans character, ironically, reminded me of myself many times. Juno is one of the most well-written characters I have seen on screen. Very full with emotion and expression, yet able to control it when needed. A good movie, that is not an action pic, is like reading a good book, and this made me feel like I was reading a good book.
On the contrary, I saw There will be Blood yesterday, and was very underwhelmed by the movie. Daniel Day was very good in the movie, but never had me caring about his vilanous spirit. Just not sold on the movie, but definetly worth a rent. |

I thought it was pretty decent. Not outstanding, but worth at least one viewing.
That said, I've seen a lot of these threads across forums lately, and I'm kind of wondering if a lot of it isn't just the backlash of "Well, a lot of people think it's good, so I'm simply not going to like it." It's the "cool" thing to do to dislike popular movies these days... Not saying that's necessarily the case here, just pointing it out. Edit: I also agree about TWBB. I thought Daniel Day Lewis was outstanding, but the movie itself...well, it dragged a little. |

The only part of the movie I enjoyed is when her dad says "the next time I see that kid, I'll punch him in the weiner"
The rest of the movie was not very good. In the first ten mins, the main girl was made out to be incredibly bright and mature for her age, but for the rest of the movie, she was your typical pregnant teen. I wish I had watched something else that night. |

I was also a bit let down by this movie and unfortunately for me it was a blind buy. I really like Michael Cera and Superbad is one of my favorite comedies but he was only in this movie for about 10 mins total. And I really don't see what the huge "to do" is with Ellen Page. Definitely was way too whiny in the movie.
