Default Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones

One of the more perplexing things is why has this all-star tv miniseries never received a decent release on any format? It was released on VHS by VCII from the 1980’s-early 2000’s and then by VCI on DVD in 2007. The DVD is one of the worst quality transfers I’ve seen for a film released 44 years ago. Is it in the public domain? Are there no remaining film elements? Who owns the negative and the rights? I’d love to see someone like KL or Vinegar Syndrome release this on Blu-Ray or 4K. Anyone else? My apologies if this is in the wrong thread.

Is this the same show: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Guyan...lu-ray/283663/

I heard this was a re-edited version of the show but not sure if they are the same.

This film is different from Guyana Tragedy. It was released to theaters shortly after the murders in Jonestown. Guyana Tragedy was made for television and starred Powers Boothe, James Earl Jones, Ned Beatty and many other stars.

The original VHS was from VCII, a non-porn subdivision of VCX. There was also a cheapo sell-through from Front Row that was licensed from them. Unaffiliated with VCI, who later did the DVD.

Thank you for clarifying! I thought VCII was a part of VCI. Either way, I can’t understand why we can’t get a decent edition of this.

Still hoping we’ll one day get a bluray or 4k release of this!
