War of the Worlds is a Universal Picture so not likely unless they jump on the Blu Ray bandwagon. Other ones would just need to see who put them, out.

I think the Matrix movies have been announced, and Xmen 2, but no dates for them yet.
On my cable's HD channel this weekend, they played a Bluray commercial, and included in the clips was a scene from Xmen 1, but i dont think there was any formal announcement yet. |

Actually, I'm surprised Fox didn't put out The Illusionist already. I haven't figured out yet what qualifies one film for day and date over another. Daredevil and both X-Men films are Fox also, so it won't be surprising if they release them this year. Minority Report and War of the Worlds will both come from Dreamworks when they do. But Dreamworks hasn't announced support for either format yet. They were late to the game with DVD too. Fortunately, Dreamworks is currently being distributed via Paramount, I believe instead of Universal - similar to MGM being distributed by Fox. So, odds are they'll go BD or release on both formats, depending on how long they wait it out. But even if Dreamworks was doing high def, the decision for both of those titles is Spielberg's to make. And he, like Lucas, seem likely to wait out the war. Both director's were hesitant to release on DVD as well. I'd be surprised if they supported either format before their prospects are clearer. They're also likely waiting for the tech to mature, to insure that when they do put out SW, JP, SPR or something, it's the best that can be done, or won't seem dated a year later. As already noted, Warner has already stated that the complete Matrix trilogy will arrive on BD this year (probably 4th quarter). Sin City, I believe is still BVHE/Miramax, as it was before the break. Miramax hasn't announced it yet. But I also wouldn't be surprised if they do, unless the rights fell to Weinstein, who are doing SC2. Last edited by Chad Varnadore; 01-23-2007 at 11:26 PM. |
