Default Harmony 880 PS3 Problem

So my Harmony 880 universal remote works very well with my PS3 when I am watching a movie. All of my commands in this instance are followed obediently. The problem occurs when I'm not watching a movie and I have just the basic PS3 menu up. When I try to go left, right, up or down, instead of taking me to the next icon, it takes me to the complete other end of the screen. In other words, I can't select anything at all in the middle cause it whizzes right on by. Has anyone else experienced this?

Let me modify this just a little. I've updated my remote several times in an attempt to address this. After each update, when I go back to test the remote, it will work correctly one time and one time only. Once I hit a 2nd button, I'm once again at the end of the screen. Thanks for your input.

i had same trouble had to reprogram several times
when programming from your other remote you have to press
the button quickly or the harmony remote will read it as multi pressings
just reprogram the button giving trouble

usually its because the PS3 is using a blue tooth link to do so and the 880 runs on IR,

I had a similar problem as well, I also ended up re-programing each directional button one at a time until they all worked. There is a lot of discussion on this subject at AVS forums.

Are you using some sort of an adapter to get the harmony to worth with the PS3?

It's actually an easy adjustment to correct your 880. I had the same issue initially as well. The command timing settings need to be adjusted, so you need to hook your remote to your PC and run the remote manager software. If I remember correctly, there is an option section in the PS3 command area, where you can adjust the remote command output settings. This will allow you to reduce the time and repetition of the command being sent to the PS3. Reducing it should work. Play around with it a little bit until you find the correct setting.

I'm at work now, so this is off the top of my head. Hopefully this will work for you.

I've had the same issue using the IR dongle. I'll be watching this thread with great interest.

it's in the timing. your nyko (if you used the settings from the logitech website) have 3 settings. one is the delay time between button presses. one is the repeat timing when holding the button and one is the start-up time...? i'm not real sure on that last one, but if you set the repeat timing to 0 and the delay timing to 0 as well, you'll usually zip right thru. set your delay timing to 0 so the remote sends the move command immediately, but set your repeat to around 500 or so, that way the remote will wait half a second before it zips thru the commands. i'm sorry i don't remember the exact terminology for all of those, but i don't have access to my home PC right now. that should get you in the ballpark tho

I am using the Nyko remote as a middleman, the same one that Chocolatejas is using.

I forgot to mention that I have already reduced my time to zero, but it sounds like repetition may solve it.

I'll try manually altering the repeat timing and see how it goes. I'd test it right now, but my 2-year-old son is in the middle of Shrek and if I mess with it, there will be trouble!!!

I had the same problem (880, PS3, Nyko IR dogle). Using Harmony Remote Software, under Device tab, select Settings (for PS3/Nyko). Select "Adjust the delays (speed settings)". Enter 300 ms for Inter-key Delay and 500 ms for Inter-Device Delay. Update Remote and it should work.

My final settings
Inter-key Delay: 0 ms
Inter-Device Delay: 300 ms
Troubleshooting - Game Console responds to some commands either too many times or only occasionally - Setting: 1

This seems to be doing the trick. Thanks to everyone for your help!

Now, if I can just figure out how to control the volume and my PS3 without having to switch back and forth...

Manually learn volume up and volume down in your PS3 activity if you can't get them to work.

It's weird you're having volume issues, even when using the learning function for PS3 commands. When I walked through the program manager it retained my Yamaha receiver, and all of its commands for volume control. It's strange yours didn't do that for your Onkyo receiver.

Default I finally figured it out...

Well, the Logitech CSR figured it out anyway. Although my Harmony remote control, with some help earlier on in this thread, was able to control my components fine individually, I still was unable to control them all together without having to go back and forth between devices.

The solution was to go into Activities and customize the buttons for my PS3 activity. I knew it was probably something simple but sometimes my noobishness still continues to amaze me. Thanks to everyone for their help. All is now well.
