Default also

if anyone wants to no if you can see a difference between 1080i and 1080p there is none ive tested differnt blurays and cannot see a difference so if your going to buy a lcd get a 720p with a high contrast ratio.

I would suggest an eye check-up if you believe that.

Then get a bigger TV.

If you're looking for the cheapest, there's plenty of HTIB out there.

I agree about the 1080p/i unless you're watching on a set that is 56" or larger.
On really large sets you will notice slightly smoother edges and mildly less jaggedness on moving objects, if you're really scrutinizing that is.
You're absolutely right in that the quality of the sets colors and contrast is more important than p/i. i.e., a 720p Sony lcd properly calibrated will always look better than a 1080p Vizio displaying the same source material.

If you are looking for a bargain sound system that is still feature rich and of good quality than you should definitely consider Onkyo, either the home theater in the box, or just get one of their receivers and pick up some speakers on clearance when the stores are unloading discontinued models.
Polk makes really good speakers that are available pretty much everywhere and at very reasonable prices.

thats likely because your TV does a pretty damn good job of upconverting the i signal to P

I agree on the point about image quality not being strictly dependant on resolution, however you should also consider the fact that the difference between 1080 and 720 is a difference of 1.2 megapixels (assuming its true 720 and 1080) and thats a lot of difference in information... so there is a big difference between a 720 tv and a 1080 one... and any flat panel TV that is 1080i that i've seen is a)1440x1080, still 0.5 megapixels less than 1920x1080... or b) actually only 720p native, able to accept the 1080i input
