Angry Why all the junk releases?

With the hundreds (thousands?) of eagerly awaited movie releases on Blu-ray, why do the studios keep releasing so much virtually unknown garbage?
C'mon sturios, give us the good stuff!

garbage first then good stuff, look at us we are addict to blu ray and they know it. If we buy good stuff first and the junk wont sell.
Good business plan

Thought there was a recent thread on how many BDs one owns. Some of the numbers has my head spinning but I'm still finding enough of what I like not to say there isn't anything good that has been released. The matter rather is whether they are better for BOTH PQ and AQ for the SD DVD if I do own the latter.

Yeah, if they released everything in a close time period, none of us would have the money to afford to buy any of it, and we also lose the anticipation factor of movies. It's a pretty good plan by the studios to release new movies in waves rather than clumped up because Blu-ray users will probably buy more BDs this way.

Blu-ray users will always get excited with new content/movies coming out so in a way, they are trying to spread out the content to be more cost effective as well(manufacturing facilties for BDs can't handle the full load of demand atm) Rather than building a number of new facilties. I'm sure it would be in the best interest for studios to have all titles available, but it just can't happen that way. I personally think they are just manufacturing what they want/can as filler till they can plan future releases.

I have to second this. If the studios released all of Quentin Tarantino's simultaneously one week, I know a large group on this site would consider that a great week for Blu-Ray releases. Meanwhile, I'd consider it one of the worst weeks since I wouldn't watch a Tarantino film for free let alone have any interest in owning it on Blu-Ray.

I will agree with your comment and taste, but I am sure that many will disgree. There has to be variety in the releases, and that is currently the case. There are plenty of releases to go around, and complaining about it is ridiculous.

Bah, it's not really fair to lump all of his work together. I dislike much of it, but Kill Bill was spectacular.

In your opinion. I see you didn't even list any movies to back up your "claim"

What's the difference between "junk" and "stuff"?

Junk is the stuff you throw out.

Stuff is the junk that you keep.

It;s a matter of opinion... i hate transformers for example but many will consider it a great blu ray release...

Now Short Circuit... that was a great release... love that movie haha.

Its sad isnt it. When people say they have 100 blu rays or over. I always think there must be a ton of movie in there that most people would never pay that much for.

I'm having a hard time paying for all the GOOD stuf I like. Just because it's "junk" or "garbage" to you doesn't mean it's garbage to us.

I have a feeling they are just ramping up all the "good" titles for release this holiday season. You notice not much has been announced for the last quarter of 2008.

On a side note I don't think the studios have been doing that bad of a job releasing titles. You have to remember this is still a technology in it's infancy. It will take time to remaster and author a huge amount of catalog titles and new releases. They only have so much capacity to do so and I imagine they are running at full capacity now.

I have changed my buying habits now that the floodgates are about to open with Paramount, Universal, Criterion and all the small independents getting ready to release some top notch stuff. I am paring down my collection by selling off the titles I won't be watching again.

+1

I hear ya Aaron, because of all the upcoming releases and the new studios coming on board I've had to reconsider which movies I'm really a big fan of. Within the last couple of months I've sold off between 30-40 titles (yes I did go all out during the BOGO days) and made room for new movies I truly love.

Me too.

Soon as the "War" was over, I locked down my budget. From here out, I'm only buying great movies that I must have.

Since Feb 1, I've bought maybe 6-8 BLUs and I have about 120ish, so that shows you how things have changed. I bought 2 in May only because FRYs did a $11.99 sale one day (Gattaca and Hitch). That suckered me in.

I'm willing to pay $10-$15 tops for most movies. Regular price is reserved for the few titles I really, really want.

Another thing for me, the movie must, must, must be top quality. If it's not 4 out of 5 or better in AQ and PQ, it's not going in my library. I'll wait until they re-release it and get it right.
