Default How strong are bluray discs?

I only ask because I ordered the Die Hard set online at walmart.com and the 3rd film was lose in the casing and if it has issues during playback, I want to know...

Basically, are they pretty strong? Should it play ok?

From what I've heard, Blu-Ray discs have a special coating on them (unlike DVDs), which is notably resistant to scratching. That being said, I wouldn't suggest doing anythng stupid (like scrubbing the play surface with steel wool, for example).

You should be perfectly fine with a loose disc. If it were dvd, then I would be concerned.

I own 140 Blu-rays and have owned over 70 PS3 games and have never had an issue with a single one of them, aside from fingerprints.

It's very much anecdotal since I take care of my discs, but even with a number of loose ones sliding around in a multi-jewel case, I haven't had an issue.

You will be alright, BDs are exceptionally strong.

There is software that can scan the surface of the disc to detect errors. I use CDCheck for the few DVDs I buy used and it has been helpful in pointing out which DVDs would cause problems during playback.

Whenever I open a blu-ray case and a disc is loose I run it through CDCheck just to make sure, but so far I never have found any problems on a blu-ray disc.

One of the discs in my planet earth collection does the same thing. It's really annoying but it hasn't effected playback any.

The Planet Earth case is horrible, I cracked one of the discs trying to get it out.

Yet my Battlefield Bad Company 2 disc cracked in my PS3.

The scratch resistant coating makes Blu-ray discs more brittle. So while they're fairly hard to scratch compared to DVDs, they crack far easier.
