Talking Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon

Quote:
Gamers of the PS1 era might remember Spyro rather fondly in their hearts. The original titles were developed by Insomniac (Ratchet & Clank series, Insomniac) and they featured some impressive visuals, animation and voice acting for its time. Since then, Spyro was picked up by a few other developers and faded into obscurity.
Well, could the fire-breathing dragon be making a comeback? We were surprised (we still are) by the startling transformation the series is experiencing with its upcoming PS3/360 game. Like many, we didn't know that Dawn of the Dragon is the end of a trilogy. Who knew that this supposed children's series could look so inspired?
The production values extend to far beyond the visuals. Elijah Wood, Gary Oldman, Cristina Ricci, Blair Underwood, Mark Hamill, and Wayne Brady all have voice roles in the upcoming game. With such star power, and incredible visuals, it seems like Spyro is ready to return to its PS1-era glory. Let's hope Dawn of the Dragon can make Insomniac Games proud when it releases later this year.

I just read the news to that myself. This better be the best Spyro since the first one. I just don't get why Sony sold the franchise along with Crash Bandicoot.

I haven't played a Spyro game in a really long time. They were somewhat simplistic in nature, but were a lot of fun to play. I may have to check out this game when it is released. The pictures look really good.

My wife absolutely loves Spyro. But we agree, it has gone downhill over the years. She loved it because she likes "collecting gems" ...over the years they moved away from gems.

Hopefully they did it right this time.

Sony never totally owned either, Universal owned Crash (through a 3 game contract with ND) and Spyro. Either way Naughty Dog created Crash for the Playstation under a co publishing agreement with Universal and Sony but when Sony wanted to buy ND, Universal said "if they go Crash stays" so ND gave up creative rights to crash. Isomniac I believe either sold off Spyro or when they went independent had to leave Spryo with the publisher. Universal only saw the money and marketability behing Crash and never realized that the series would be nothing without Naughty Dog, and I would say the same for Spyro. Currently Vivendi owns both franchises

I've only ever bought the PS1 Spyro games. They were by far the best. The rest have better graphics, but the gameplay is extremely dull.
