Default "The Andromeda Strain" Trailer

Click here to check out the trailer (and official website) for A&E's "The Andromeda Strain," their four-hour miniseries based on the Michael Crichton-authored best seller, starring Benjamin Bratt, Rick Schroder, Eric McCormack, Christa Miller, Andre Braugher, Daniel Dae Kim, Viola Davis and Ted Whittall. Helmed by two-time Academy Award nominated director Mikael Saloman and adapted for the small screen by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Robert Schenkkan, the show will premiere later this spring.

cool. I remember seeing the original movie in biology class. Very 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Couldn't agree more. Now, I normally wouldn't say this but in each case, MC books are much better than MC-based movies. Richard Donner butchered Timeline. We all of course know that Spielberg was the only one who came close to doing any of his books justice. JP book was still better than movie. And if you're wondering why I said 'normally', the LOTR books were just straight boring.

This isn't a film, gamma; it's a four-hour miniseries/adaptation.

WOW, I wasn't expecting it to be so violent.

Not too bad. More of a political and psychological thriller than the book or the original movie.

DVD coming June 3, but no BD?

Gary

I watched the first 10 minutes and it was enough for me. Just seems like a generic thriller.

Default Hoping for "The Andromeda Strain (1971)" on BD

I actually liked it, although to me it isn't even starting to be as thrilling as the 1971 movie.

How come?
Well, I think the "old one" was so incredibly authentic in it's report like way to develop the story.
That particular terror is almost continuously growing throughout the entire movie.
No shooting, no explosion, no CGI is distracting from the story... just the plain scientific report...

Lets hope we see this one on BD soon!

The sets and production value look high end but the script seems a little weak and many times the dialogue is poorly delivered by the actors. They really phase in an out from high end TV Movie acting to bad Soap Opera acting. I’m not sure if it’s the second rate actors performing at second rate level or if it’s the lack of directorial skill that is causing the stark fluctuation in tone and emotion in the scenes. The trailers and TV spots to this had me slightly excited but I’m kind of disappointed in it overall.

i thought it started off awkward, just saying things from the book where they didn't really fit, but after the first few scenes the acting got a little better...i also liked the way it had it's own theme to it but still kept things tied to the book...but a couple things just seemed wrong and didn't make complete sense...they would probably be spoilers if i mentioned them but if you've watched it then you might know what i'm talkin about

Not even close to the original movie this thing was just a 4 hour commercial for the SDVD they released of it. I expected alot better from Ridley Scott and Tony Scott should have been a direct updated Re-Make

I thought it was pretty good, with two elements being pretty idiotic (well, over the top that is).

[Show spoiler]

First, the wormhole/Time Travel - Totally unnecessary, and tacked on.
There was no need for this. Once they determine that Andromeda is sulfure -based, they only have to find something that eats sulfure. Which they do without the need for help from the future in the original.
Second - The radioactive Reactor coolant. So they needed some action in the lab (The chick screwing with Andromeda -hard to believe, putting the safety of the world in balance with your familly- and having to go Anaphylactic wasn't enough I guess), and they have a guy die from the fall, ok, but make the coolant radioactive (which would thus make the entire conduit radioactive btw, a conduit you can get in with a fire extinguisher), and the chinese guy dies of radiation poisoning in 30 seconds. Time enough to thrown a thumb .. an extremely radioactive thumb, to our hero.
Who then suffers no after effects (not even burn traces from the vapor at the cemetery).
Yeesh.

Aside from that, excellent miniseries (I was positively impressed with Eric Mccormack, nice mix of a drug addict a-hole reporter that can we can still root for).

I though the whole thing was great till the last 45 minutes to half hour of the movie, it really became evident that it was a tv movie then and it seems like they just gave up. It ruined the entire thing for me, now i remember why i don't really watch serious tv shows or tv movies.
