indeed interesting.. wondering if this will go the way of smell-o-vision as a gimmick.
While I'm all for 3D it just hasn't seemed catch on very well... it's more of an amusement for a couple hours. I mean, it requires extra hardware. Anytime you say, "you can watch in 3D all you need is this blu-ray... and tv... and glasses" the list starts sounding long and expensive. Just can't picture it being mainstream. Now, bring on holographics where it creates 3D space before my very eyes, and you got a deal. |

No one will be made to buy 3D
It's very difficult to do 3D properly because you need to sync to your TV's refresh rate in order to make shutter glasses work 100%. It can be done though (Sega Master system did it iwth shutters in 1986. It was a little flickery but it worked) |

I have several DBs that came encoded for D-Box! I don't know anyone who has even met anyone with a D-Box!
This is a much more mainstream product than the D-Box. If I was looking for an HD TV and one was only a couple hundred $$ more but could do good 3D there is no question I would buy it. I loved the idea of the IMAX 3D glasses for SDTV but it didn't work well because the image was final image was 240i which was bad on anything that wasn't very fast moving blocky images, like movie rides. Nearly all of the content for them was from IMAX movies which were designed to be shown on an 80 foot screen, so many times there were tiny pictures which in imax were big images on the giant screen but on my TV they looked like blurry 3D stamps even the same technology in 1080p (two 1080i images) altenating at 60FPS would in my opinion probibly look great. I think I will replace my 32" LCD akai (which has had issues lately) with a Big Samsung DLP, after these befome available. |

Sweet... and i just got my TV last year! And it is not a 3D TV.
Well this is good though. If it really happens, it will revolutionize at home movies and games! Imagine seeing a movie at home in 3D with the quality of Blu-ray on a big screen HDTV! Or better yet, navigating a video game in 3D! If this happens, my next TV will be 3D capable! Unfortunately it will not be likely to happen for another 5-10 years. |
