Default Decoding / Bitstream

I sell this stuff and Im still a little confused.

Some players can actually decode dolby HD and dts HD audio tracks while others can only send those audio tracks via bitstream out to a receiver.
and some are not capable of either.

SO......... correct me if these statements are wrong.

1) If your player actually decodes then your receiver does not have to, it simply plays the PCM track coming from the player. The player converts the compressed audio (dolby HD or dts HD) to PCM.

2) If your player sends out only bitstream of these audio tracks then the receiver MUST be able to convert (decode) them for you to hear them.

Please feel free to add any info I seem to be missing.
As you can see in my signature I am using a 5300 ES and I want to up grade the Blu to the new BDPS350 (It will bitstream only) and this is why Im asking.
Do I need to get the BDPS550 to get all the audio tracks I want.

Thank You in advance
Mike

your statements are correct.

...since your Receiver can decode the new formats, you can get a player that can send out as Bitstream, or even internally decode (every receiver I know of that can decode TrueHD and Dts-HD MA can also process multichannel PCM so either way works). The S350 can Bitstream both formats as well as internally decode TrueHD.

It would be a good choice for you.
