Default Htib

Hi all I am currently in the market for a surround sound system, and I wanted to get some advise. I have read a number of forums that bash HTIB and praise the quality of a separate component system, and I was wondering if I could get input. I don't have a blank cheque, I would like to spend $500 - $900 on a surround sound system, weither that be a HTIB or a seperate component system. I have read some good things about the OnKyo packages.

I currently have:

Samsung LN46A650
PS3

I am hoping to purchase a new Blu Ray player this year as well as the surround sound system I am looking for info on. Please provide input. If you have a preference, please provide model #'s and rough pricing.
Thanks
B

If you are deadset on getting an HTIB system, look at the Onkyo HT-SP908 package. But seperate component systems are almost always better than HTIB systems. The package I showed includes the Onkyo 605 which decodes all HD audio formats.

well i was going to suggest lookiing at amazon for good prices but it looks like the onkyo 605 went up, waayyyy up. for some reason its more than the 705 now. the newer model 606 can be had there for about 439. you can find decent speaker packages there as well.

I was considering the Onkyo HT-SP908, any views on it, also, are the rear speakers wireless, or can they be.
Thanks

You can also get a very similar quality speaker package from Onkyo for $229 and an Onkyo 60 reciever for $448. That would be a pretty good combination for you.

I don't know about making the speakers wireless and I think that the HTIB is a bit overpriced. It may take more of your time to get everything together but in the end, you probably would have rather spent more time and less money to get better performance.

Yamaha v663 and the Polk RM6750 both together will come around 600 bucks... Better value then HTIB

Hi, I have another question, I am new to surrond sound, so it may be a no brainer. If I do go with seperate components and I get the TX-SR605, but can't 7 speakers, only 5 speakers, will this be ok. I know the amp is capable of more (7 idealy) but if I only use 5, is there a setting I set to 5.1.

Absolutly. If you decide to use 5.1 it would be fine. Hell, if you wanted to, you could use stereo and it would work fine. Of course you wouldn't get "surround sound" with stereo but perhaps a simulated surround effect. Whatever works for you will work for it.
