Default Polk Monitor 50s or 60s? Which should I get?

So I've narrowed it down to Polk Audio monitor series for my fronts. I'll probably get the CS-2 cause I watch a lot of movies. Now for my left and rights, should I get the Monitor 50s or 60s?

I don't know the dimensions of my living room, but to "guesstimate" it would be 20 feet by 15ish. I want something good, but not earth shattering because I have an ******* neighbor upstairs.

I have a powered sub, which I might also upgrade. Advice? Thank you.

Joker and others have been very helpful so far, and I appreciate that.

King TUNA
Sharp Aquos 46 in LCD
Sony DG-910
Onkyo HT-s40 7.1 speakers (keeping the rears, upgrading the fronts)
PS3 60 gb

I don't think you'd reach the limit, and find a "need" for the larger of the two... so save the cash...... If you didn't have a sub, I'd lean towards larger drivers, but you should be fine with smaller fronts....

The only difference between the two is one more 5 1/4 inch driver in the 60s. I think you will be happy with either, let your budget decide.

al210,

Will Amazon price match Frys online? I know Frys has the Maple and Amazon has the black and cherry ones, but...

I have the 50's and they sound great, they also have more than enough to make the neighbors complain.

Go with the 50's. With a sub going I couldn't tell the difference between the 50's and the 60's when I went in to listen to them.

Mild bump. I doubt it, but I'd like to know, if anyone else happens to know, since I've been thinking of picking up a pair of 50s.

I have the Monitor 60 speakers and could not be happier with the sound I got mine for $139.00 each could not pass on the deal other wise I would have got the 50 series. Memnoch71 is probably correct if your running a sub it wouldn't matter a whole lot.

I don't think Amazon price matches.. and Best Buy only does Price matching with stores local to it, and that Fry's deal is NOT in their stores, and is ONLY online, so you can not price match that either.

Good luck.

I am on the Fry's site. When you factor in ground shipping, you would basically be saving $40 for a pair of the 50's.

I wouldn't do it, I have the 50s and you definitely need a sub. Another 5 1/4 inch driver is not going to give you good enough bass response to not have one....

Thanks for the response. I am leaning towards the 60's or 50's, CS2, and either the PSW10 or PSW12.

One other thing to you or anyone else who would like to chime in

You could upgrade from a pair of the 60's to a pair of the RTi8's which are genuine wood speakers for only another $90. Do you think real wood makes that much of a difference??

That's a good setup, Polk is a little lacking in the sub dept. though. I have the 50s and a CS1, I am getting 30s to replace my surrounds this month. I will upgrade my sub also to a HSU, SVS, or AV123.

Forewarning: Their center channels are huge!! Make sure you have room.

The wood is only a veneer, so no, that does not make any difference soundwise. It does look better though.

The real difference is that the drivers are significantly better. They are larger, 6.5", and are higher quality. The RTi line is significantly better, I would def drop the extra cash for those.

If you can afford it get the RTis. They are an all around better speaker, not just the wood.

Yes thanks - I noticed that on their website. I just have always liked a bigger center speaker with more capacity for some reason. The one I have now is a Panasonic and its so small, the dialogues are like faint whispers.

THanks for the heads up on the subs; I will look into the ones you mentioned.
