Default Good 5.1 Demo Material

Alright so at my work we're having a "Sound-off" demo contest, and the basic premise is... it can be music or a movie, or one of each (you will be judged on the one everyone likes best) and the prize is apparently some money or something lol... but the room the Sound-off will be taking place in is of course our sound room,

I have a lot of options for surround setups (probably going with the Klipsch RF-82 package run off the Onkyo 875)
The TV in the room is the Panasonic 42PZ800U and it is running on the Sony BDP-S300

I currently have Hotel California (hopefully on DVD if i can find it) as my opener demo (it's a great song for speaker demos with awesome bass) but I am looking for something to really show off the surround sound. Anybody got any suggestions? I'm thinking I Am Legend (the scene where the creatures find out where he lives and he has to blow up the cars and shoot the one)

But I do need this by next thursday (the 12th) so any help is appreciated!

I take it you mean the DVD audio of Hotel California (this is a great disc).

As far as music goes any of the following are great demo discs:

- Dire Straits: Brothers in Arms (DVDA or SACD)
- Pink Floyd: Dark side of the Moon (preferably the DVDA torrent of the original quad mix or the SACD)
- Seal: I and II (on DVDA)
- Roxy Music. Avalon (SACD)
- Elton John: Goodbye Yellow Brick Wall (DVDA or SACD)
- Maceo Parker: School's in (SACD)

Definitely consider Beck--Sea Change (SACD) for a dramatic, aggressive surround mix.

Master & Commander

The battle scenes, the quiet parts when you can hear the ship & rigging creaking all around you, and the music.

Sunshine's opening sceen is really pretty good. V for Vendetta when Parliment is blowing up. 3:10 to Yuma's end gun fight. POTC 3 when the British guy is walking down the stairs of his ship when it is being hit by the cannon balls. There are a ton of options.

Even better, the Dave Mathews Concert or the Dave Gilmore concert would be pretty sweet.

Not BD but the DTS version of Saving Private Ryan. The first 20 minutes is sick!

The diva scene in Fifth Element - remastered Blu-Ray
the prelude from Hot August Night - Neil Diamond - CD
starts slow and low... ramps up ... then gets in your face !!

Stargate. Pretty much the whole movie was shaking my house. XXX at the end where he is coming down the mountain. Sweet pcm track and my sub was rumbling and speakers were getting a work out on that. Or independence day.

DH4 is my vote as well and has become my demo disc. I love the tunnel scene. Also the elevator shaft scene has some cool effects with all the metal and cables clanking. Lots of front-to-back panning as well as side-to-side. It sounds amazing on a finely tuned system.
