Man . . . this sucks really bad. I've been a fan of Carlin for as long as I can remember. I'm glad I got the opportunity to see him live once. How incredibly sad. He just kicked all his drug/alcohol problems a reasonably short time ago, too. Wow . . . I'm shocked.

He's the funniest comedian ever and I thought he would live a lot longer, just to spite all the religious people out there (and I am one of them mind you). Rest In Peace, George. Your humor will be missed greatly.

As he stated a number of times in his standup, instead of a moment of silence there should be a moment of screaming.

I don't give a shit that many have certified Richard Pryor as the greatest standup ever in my book its Carlin. I will miss him terribly.

Carlin put out more great stuff than Pryor, and I personally think he stretched the boundaries and challenged authority more than Pryor.

George Carlin has passed away at the age of 71... http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/0..._george_carlin

The stand-up comic, slash guest appearance actor was the best with material that confronted the stupidity of human nuance. In his honour I will be spending the day tomorrow getting a chuckle via some of his recordings.

"Get on the plane. Get on the plane." I say, F#%^ YOU! I'm getting IN the plane. Let Evil Kenieval get ON the plane!

Agreed but Pryor has the credit for "changing standup" which I think is BS. Carlin was smarter, funnier, and more edgy.

It's because Pryor almost killed himself and significantly shortened his career. People took Carlin for granted all the way up until and including his death.

Damn it that sucks. I hadn't heard about this. Carlin was on a short list with Sam Kinison and Bill Hicks whom I disagreed with 10-15% of the time, but still loved as much or more than someone I agree with completely.

Thats absolutely true. People were always harping about what an artist he was to set himself on fire and find the courage to do a bit on it. But that bit can't compare to any of Carlins. George Carlin IMO can't even be lumped in with the rest of the comics because he was on his own level all by himself, and always will be.

The funniest stuff Pryor ever did was always making fun of himself, whether it be cocaine use or his heart attack. Carlin's strongest stuff actually reflected things outside his own day to day life, although he was great at that too but he he was just awesome at reflecting on life in general. Don't get me wrong, I am a Christian and feel that his stuff was incredibly offensive, but also hilarious at the same time. And I feel religion is a pretty hypocritical institution, so much of what he says is also very insightful and I agree with it.

Yep and that's a true artist. Someone who takes things we all know about and makes us look at them in a whole new light. Whether you agree or disagree, are enthused or appalled and offended he did his job damn well.
