Looks like a pretty good deal, though the gain is awfully high. I guess it depends
on your projector and ambient light. You would probably lose some of your black
and shadow details.

Side note, I pulled the trigger on the HC1500 today. Should be here Mon. or Tue.
And I'm gonna stretch my cloth on the frame this weekend!

I'm thinking about this screen with that projector in fact..... I think the high-gain will benefit me...... you may be right though, and it may be "too much" gain.....

If that is the Da-Lite High Power, it is an excellent screen. Uniform brightness, no hotspotting, no sparklies. Highly recommend!

Thanks!

Now my question..... they say it's 2.5 gain, but Da-Lite's website doesn't list any with 2.5 gain.... just 1.5 and 2.8

I just skimmed it.... more thorough review is needed

Sounds like a DaLite High Power, which is a great screen with up to a 2.8 gain depending on setup. The problem with the screen being sold on the ubid site is that it is a 1.33 ratio. Most pj's project in 1.78 so you'll end up with unused screen real estate above and below the picture in this case. As long as that's okay with you, sounds like a decent deal.

I think what Brain Sturgeon was referring to is that with a 1.33 screen you'll have a masking issue with just about anything that you watch. 1.78 content will have white bars above and below rather than filling the screen. Likewise 2.4 content will leave you with white bars above and below the black bars. I guess you could get around this somewhat by not pulling the screen down as far, then using vertical shift on the pj to move the image up or down. You could also mask the top and bottom of the screen, but personally I would get a 16:9 screen.

I've never tried to use a 1.33:1 screen so somebody please correct if this isn't right.

Yup-- that's exactly what I meant. You'll have unused screen ("white bars") above and below the image with any 1.78 HD content, and then additional "black bars" added to the "white bars" with 2.37 content. You could do as AlaskaDon mentioned and just not pull down the screen fully or use some other masking method, but either way, you won't get full use out of the screen with most HD and pretty much all BD content. Unless you are planning to watch a lot of 4:3 content, I would get a 16:9 screen other than this one.
