Talking I want one of these!

This is only a limited beta-test vehicle, but it sounds like something that would be very fun to own!

Honda FCX Clarity

The things I like about it:
  • No pollution (except water vaopr)
  • It's a luxury car with EVERYTHING (similar in look and feel to an Accord or Lexus
  • Dead silent propulsion system
  • Great acceleration - 0-60 in ~7.5 seconds
  • The electronic display that shows the activity of the Fuel Cell stack (It glows like an orange fireball during high output) [reminds me of the Batmobile]
  • 77 MPG! Even counting the energy required to produce the Hydrogen, it is twice as energy-efficient as a hybrid and 3 times as efficient as a regular ICE car.

Anyone else hear about this??

the mileage is great, but the cost of the car is yet to be seen. I'm assuming it will be very high, maybe $50,000 or so. I could be wrong but who knows. I hope this technology is the wave of the future as we really need to stop our dependence on foreign oil

Water vapor is the most abundant green house gas.

Only worth it if you can guarantee that your Hydrogen is produced via nuclear power or some renewable source. Otherwise you are just exporting your pollution to another location (ie. a coal fired power station).

Hydrogen cars... Hydrogen produced from Nuclear..

Hydrogen produced via Fusion... ... When eventually it arrives .

PS... for those in the USA, fuel price that I paid in the UK yesterday was:-

£1.13 per litre = £5.13 per gallon = $10.12 per gallon

Post Think of Hydrogen not as a fuel, but as an energy storage mechanism

. . . like batteries.

There are many ways of producing Hydrogen now:
  • Using water and electricity [or any energy source] at home or in a large generation plant
  • Using steam and natural gas in a home generator

Some of the really intriguing ones being looked into involve using solar cells to generate the electricity at home (and Hydrogen) at home.

Even using today's technology by generating Hydrogen with natural gas and steam at home, a fuel-cell car is twice as efficient as a hybrid.

If fuel-cell cars became mainsteam, what I would rather see are central generating stations that you could fill up at just like gas stations today.

I know that if the government and industry got behind this, it could become a very real possibility in the next few years.

To be fair though, how much of that price is tax? I have read as much as 75% of what Brits pay is taxes.
