This past week one of the film industry's most prolific film composers passed away. And what a wonderful legacy he left us. Thought I would leave a list of his most important work, highlighting those film scores currently made available as Blu-Ray movies. Check for yourself those catalogue releases you may already have in your collection and those that sometime in the future we can look forward to as they may be released.

John Barry was IMHO the best there was. His music was the first music I was drawn to before pop or rock. He identified himself as a musical "dramatist" rather than composer and I think he was spot on. Unlike todays composers, he knew how to enhance a film or scene, not dominate it or overdo it. He did an amazing variety of films with differnt sounds, yet always had a distinct "Barry sound".
The list of credits here was by no means complete and you should look up the complete list. You will be shocked by this man's output, exspecially in the 60's and 70's. He won Oscars in the 60's, 80's and 90's which I find an incredible accomplishment. I shall miss him. I always hoped there was one more score left to do but alas I will have to remain content with what the man left us. It is quite frankly, the soundtrack of my life. RIP John Barry |
