Default what are the best settings for me

Whats the best way to set my system up?

I have:
80gb PS3 with an optical going into my Sony str DG510 receiver
Bose 201 IV series front speakers
Bose acoustimass cube speakers for center and surround.
Sony SA-W3000 12" 180-Watt Subwoofer

Im not impressed with the 201's and might make them the surrounds, the cubes seemed to sound better up front. I have read that i should have all the speakers set to small and the cross over set to 80hz, so thats how I have it set. What are you guy's recommendations on speaker placement and receiver set up?

we are having a bday party for the roomate so thats why we have streamers all over.

well, that really depends on the frequency response of those speakers. Do you happen to know? ...if they cannot perform at 80Hz, then an 80Hz crossover is not ideal.

...also, if you don't already: PS3 Optical = Bitstream

Move the 201's to the rear and use as rear channels, move the cubes to the front (L,C,R). Are you using the Acoustimass module? The Acoutismass module has built in passive crossovers and you should be using the cubes with the module. The 201's should be connected directly to the Sony receiver and not the cubes. Set them all to small (my setup when I had my Sony ES receiver).

Your PS3 looks like a vacuum cleaner... Don't let the holes get clogged with dust bunnies.

Yep its on bitstream. I couldnt find the FR for the 201 IV but the 201 V is 10Hz - 120kHz (+0.5 dB)

I believe the acoustimass cubes are 75Hz-20kHz but im not sure witch ones they are. I think my dad bought them in 2000.

I don't have the module. Just 3 speakers. My dad still has the module, sub, and 2 other cubes at his house far far away from me. Ill clean my ps3 asap and move the 201s to the back.

My 805 has the cubes at 80hz, but they are running through the module. I would get the module back as soon as you can since this is your primary source for mid-range freqs.
