I have several red box locations near my house. For months now they have been selling $5 DVDs - today I cliked on the "used Dvd" link at the machine and they had Star Trek + Wolverine Blu Ray for $5!!!! I serched 2 different red box location and both had Star Trek on blu. I know Blu Ray is not available in all red box areas but if you have seen them for rent in your locations - look under used next time and see if they are selling them too. There is no cover Art or blue case but for $5 I'll take it!!!

don't know about Red Box but on the Blockbuster machines they have a button for BR's. But not all of those carry BR's even though you see the choice for them.

Agreed. $5 is a great price for a used Blu-Ray movie-HOWEVER-I just couldn't do it without getting the case with it. Call me crazy but I'd still pay the extra $10 to get the Blu-Ray with disc and original case. Thanks for the heads up though. |

"Wolverine (Blu ray)" There are not blu rays available in every machine and far far less than DVD - maybe 2-3 in each machine while they have 50-60 DVDs. |

No I already own both of these titles but the screen looks the same as when you rent the DVD so I assume it would give me the correct disc. I bought a DVD copy of "the Hangover" because there was not a Blu version available. It gave me the correct movie.

I rent about 2-4 movies each week on red box - we have called customer service about 5 times with small issues - they are ALWAYS very helpful - never had an issue they wouldnt solve. If you have a disc that wont work or picked up a movie at one location because it was closer but were charged for reserving at another location they will give you a code to use for a free rental next time. I assume if the disc is scrathced they would do the same...then again isnt the blu ray suppossed to be more sturdy with scratch resistance?

I rented a movie from one of their machines once...... they have two machines in front of a grocery store very close to my house..... I didn't know they sold DVDs let-alone Blu-rays now.
$5 for a Blu-ray isn't bad if you don't mind not having the cover etc..... $5 for a DVD with no cover etc. is highway robbery, but they probably sell a lot of them.... I only used it the one time, because they need to move those things into a lobby or something where it's not so cold!!!!! I stood in front of the machine for 20 seconds last week, looking at the selections on the "board" (not on the screen itself) and decided to jet..... I have seen both machines with long lines...... So Brick and Mortar Blockbusters are in trouble (with this, and online both being so prevalent) |

The worst is if you are trying to do something simple like return something and you get behind a family of 10 trying to figure out what they want to rent and taking FOREVER.
![]() I've only used these a few times when out of town. I like supporting my non-chain local video store when I can. I do have netflix though but I probably spend more at the store. BTW, with the custom art work done for BD discs it shouldn't be too big a deal to get one without a case at least value wise. A year from now the value of Wolverine BD with original case will probably be $2. The value of Wolverine BD without a case, $1. So no biggie either way ![]() If you were trading in discs or something I bet most stores wouldn't even know it wasn't the original art work most of those look so good. |

I lived in Hawaii and they had a version of the Red Box called Ohana Flix and it was f***in' horrible. They put two on Schofield Barracks, one inside the PX and one at the Burger King/Popeyes. When they first started it in 2007, it was $1.75 for DVDs. The shoppette on based charged $3.50 for DVDs, however they got Full Screen DVDs most of the time. And the Schofield Inn charged $3.00 a DVD.
So, everytime I rented a DVD, these discs would be scratched to death. I remember I rented Fracture with Anthony Hopkins and the disc was scratched through that there was a hole in the disc. Then I ended up getting two free rentals after some issues with customer service. I ended up renting Delta Farce and Year of the Dog. I got charged for these two free rentals; and I got charged $46 for two sh**ty DVDs. I was pissed and royally pissed too. After that, I said; "NEVER AGAIN!" |
