Default Bad and Good Movie Theaters

Do you have a really good movie theater, an ok theater, or bad theater in your area.

I live in the atlanta area and we have an AMC theater that is on point. I have never had a bad movie experience there. It has the largest screen along with best sound. The base is off the charts and the sound adds a lot of life to the movie. Cinemark theaters are usually good too. Most of the time you can always look at the size of the speakers and tell what kind of sound you are going to get.

Now I have been to a couple of new theaters that made me feel ripped of when sound is low and without base. I hate that! A couple of theaters to name that I have been disappointed at are Great Escape McDonough 16, the Regal at Atlantic Station(had no base what so ever!)

One thing I HATE about multi-plex theaters is most do not tell you what time the movie is playing in what theater...

ie, do you pay $9.50 to see it at the time you want, or $9.50 to watch it in the larget theater with better sound...

About4 theaters in my area have 2 big theaters and 8 or 10 smaller duds. The new movies are played at alternating times and there is never an indication of what theater you will be watching it in.

One reason I rarely go to movies.

Reminds me of the Harkins Theaters out here in California and Arizona. The one nice thing they offer, although some parents don't take advantage of is the Kids play room area to drop your kids off at while parents are watching a movie.

Theatres here in Memphis are pretty subpar considering they are regionally owned. The best one here I prefer not to go to because it is too busy and not in a part of town I care to frequent. The best theatres I have been to are the Green Hills Regal Cinema in Nashville, it is in a very ritzy part of town and the crowd is usually low key are respectful, and Wehrenberg Ronnie's 20 in St Louis, awesome 2 floor arcade, an eat in diner that plays old movies drive in style (the tables are like cars) and 20 great screens.

Anybody know how you can tell if a screen is DLP? I hear those are better.

Here in San Antonio, we have so many theaters that you can think of. My favorite theater is the Palladium IMAX. Why??? Don't even ask, you know why. My second favorite is the Alamo Drafthouse because they serve food and alcohol during showtimes. Its a bit pricey but its worth enjoying a nice cold draft beer and good food.

I moved to Seattle a couple of years ago and left behind in Denver the best theatre in Colorado (or here for that matter). The main auditorium at the Continental 6 Theatre (the Regal Theatre chain) in Denver seats like 875, has a huge screen, is state-of-the-art and showed the best releases. The only drawback was no stadium seating, but the seating was comfortable. I saw many a midnight show there and before it was completely refurbed for the Special Edition Star Wars releases back in the 90's, I worked there. Back then, it was just a single. I also miss the Highlands Ranch 24.

Out here, the best theatre I have found so far, is the Lincoln Square Cinemas. It's got 12 theatres, luxury reclining leather chair stadium seating and excellent concession. The only drawback is the admission price of $10. I do understand, however, that the Cinerama in dowtown Seattle is quite good, but haven't had the opportunity to go there yet.

All run-of-the-mill stuff here. I wish I could find a luxury theater. This is probably another reason I rarely go and wait out the DVDs.

The best Theater here is The Dole Cannery Theaters in Honolulu. Stadium Seating and DLP Showings. It may not mean much to people in the other 49 states but in Hawaii means alot. I think it is the only theater in Honolulu with DLP Showings!!

I'm on the outskirts of Tampa, FL and we have a great theater here. Even the smaller theaters in the back have great sound.

Here in my little town, the only theater we have was built back in the late 70s,has only two auditoriums, and just added stereo sound(in auditorium one only) in 2002 for Attack Of The Clones. Not to mention the ceiling has lots of water spots.
It does have a certain nostalgic charm, though.

Fortunately within a 45 minute drive in just about every direction there are several very nice theaters to choose from, all featuring digital surround sound and a couple with stadium seating.

The best theater, to me, is the Regal Pinnacle Cinema (part of the Turkey Creek shopping center) in my town of Knoxville, TN. Every room is filled to the brim with stadium seating and DLP showings! Saw "The Bourne Ultimatum" in the very first screening room, and was blown away by the sound quality!

I must admit I am very impressed with those digital presentations...went to see Semi-Pro and I had never seen a movie in a theater that looked so crystal clear.
Of course the nearest digital theater is about an 80 mile drive so I haven't made it back!

only problem is after the beer... that fear of breaking the seal and then having to go to the bathroom often...

i go to MJR on 15 and Van Dyke probably 95% of the time to see movies...
its a really nice theater...

just wish we had more than 2 IMAX screens here... Henry Ford and AMC 30 isnt cutting it...
i plan to see The Dark Knight @ an IMAX screen...

Default IMAX coming soon!!!!

The AMC 18 here at Potomac Mills in Woodbridge Va is pretty cool. Only a few years old, a few theatres with DLP projectors and Stadium seating with raiseable arm rests to make them love seats are pretty sweet.

AND..... I just saw a huge banner stating "IMAX THEATRE COMING SOON!" hanging in the archway this past weekend when I saw 'Get Smart'! Can't wait for that! it will be the nearest one within 250 miles as far as I know.

EDIT.. oops! Apparently AMC and IMAX have a deal so there will actually be 3 new IMAX theatres within the area in the near future
