I am building a new home with a dedicated HT (22L x 14W) and was contemplating adding a wet Bar area, which will include cabinets, bar top, and sink, that is 6' wide and 4' deep, set INTO the wall (not taking up any of the 22 x 14 area). I was wondering how much impact that will have on the acoustics of the room? Will it be noticeable to my relatively untrained ear? Will their be an echo or something I should watch out for?
I also plan on having a closet space opened up near the front of the room to house my AV equipment, which I will enclose with a heavy curtain. I guess I could do the same thing to the wet bar, which would hide it from view when not in use? thoughts/opinions? |

It will have dramatic affect on the acoustics because everyone will be so drunk no one will give a shit. Go for it make the bar as big as you want.

I'm adding a wet-bar.... it doesn't "have" to change the accoustical properties for the worse...... but it changes them, so just set-up accordingly..... I'm assuming you're planning on using an SPL meter to get proper placement of speakers and room treatments???
The total room size that will become my home-theater is about 750 square feet, so I'm going to have a LOT of room treatments in order to get it properly set-up ![]() as long as you factor everything in, you'll be fine. |

one key note id add on here tho, is to try to avoid 'reflective' material, that may 'brighten' or cause unwanted reverb in the room, big mirrors, class cabinetry for example. if ever you plan to tho, just use a curtain to hid it as an option.
generally, most people prefer aesthetics over function, thus having a beautiful room yet no acoustic treatments at all. speakers first acoustics second |
