Default HDTV Selection

So I've finally decided to bite the bullet and get me one of them new-fangled HDTVs. I find it hard to sift through all the fluff and false advertising, so I thought I'd see if you gents could recomend a good model with these specifications:

-32"
-1080p
-120Hz
-Great Picture Quality and these spiffy 'deep blacks' I've heard so much about
-Good options for picture adjustment/calibration

Also money is no object (for this size TV anyway) if its more than I can make this summer, I'll just save up a bit more. Thanks!

32" only?

32XBR6 is basically your only choice as it meets all of your requirement.

$1200 is good price.

Yeah... get a bigger set. If you're going to go 1080p, 120hz... you're going to wish you'd gotten a bigger set. Figure out your budget and get the biggest set with those features you can. The only reason I'd get a 32" is if I was a college student, and then I would buy a budget set rather than a high-end one.

Yeh dude get a bigger size, 32'' 1080p is the same as a 32'' 720p, with that small of a size u wont be able to notice the difference, they say unless ur tv is 42-47'' is when u notice 1080 even 42'' is a stretch for 1080p

Anything smaller than 46" is not going to make a noticeable difference between 720p and 1080p output. So, you have to decide what is more important: 32" or 1080p? I wouldn't bother with 120Hz unless you want to spend $3000+ on a 60" TV. It adds clarity, but also adds motion blur. Another thing to consider before making a decision is what type of room it will be in. Will there be any light coming through windows when watching? If yes, then LCD is the choice to make. If no and the room is guaranteed to be absolutely pitch black, then Plasma would be the way to go.

Shop smart... Shop S-Mart!

I am a college student, which is why I'm looking at a 32 incher. from looking at sets in stores, I've determined it to be the best compromise between size and portability. And it's probably going to double as a monitor (that is when I'm not sitting 1.5' away from it gaming on it :P ) so 1080p is important.

About that Panny LCD, it says it uses 100Hz... I'm assuming it's a Euro version? Is there an American version of that TV?

And about that XBR6... I read somewhere that it wasn't actually 120Hz. The line is advertised to be 120Hz, but if you read the fine print, it seems to indicate that this is only on the 40"+ TVs...

Yeah, trusted reviews is a European site. If you notice, they list a different model number/name than the one I did. The model number/name that I posted is for the American version. I usually post that site's reviews though, because they are good reviews and really consistent so its pretty easy to gauge how they actually feel about each TV.

There are usually small differences in the European models, usually to do with connections. European versions almost always have an extra HDMI, for example. I'm not sure why this is, but it is. Rest assured though, that the important parts of the TV are the same, albeit the american version is 120hz to account for NTSC standard, rather than 100hz for PAL in the European model.
