The Gear:
Yamaha HTR-5760 Klipsch RF-3 II Floorstanding Loudspeaker - Fronts RC-35 Center (I'm also using 4 rears - Klipsch SS.5 & the 10" downward firing sub) The Questions: Let me preface this by saying that I bought almost all of my equipment without the instructions ![]() A) My front speakers each have 4 of the screw-in ports on the back - 2 highs and 2 lows. For each speaker, I have a monster cable that runs from the dual connection at the receiver to the quad connection on the speaker. However, I noticed that there are spots on my receiver for front right & left plus A and B for each speaker. Are these meant for the high and low setup that my speakers built in? Should I be skipping the monster cable and hooking the wires up individually? B) My center also has 4 wire screw caps on it. However, there is a gold bridge from the bottom red to the top red and the same with the black. Is it sufficient to run the connection from my receiver to only the bottom connection on the speaker? C) Lastly...and I know I'm opening up a can of worms.....should I run the center and fronts as large or small on my receiver setup? I know that this is widely debated, but I wanted opinions on my specific setup. I will be using my ears to pick the best after I've gotten everything dialed in, I just was looking for some pros and cons. Thanks a ton to those who help, your advice is greatly appreciated!!!! ![]() |

I'll answer questions A and B...
Both your fronts and center have two sets of binding posts just in case you want to bi-wire/bi-amp them. Not really necessary or desirable in your setup, so we'll skip that discussion, for now. The center speaker has the gold jumpers installed, which connects both sets of L/R posts. Leave those in place and connect the AVR to either set of speaker L/R binding posts. Your mains seem to have lost their jumpers, so you'll need to make your own. Using a short piece of speaker wire, connect each speakers top Left to bottom Left and top Right to bottom Right. Once that's done, connect your AVR to one set of L/R's (top or bottom) for each speaker, just as you did with the center. Hey presto! You're done. Your AVR's "A" and "B" are almost certainly for two different "zones". Use the "A" outputs and ignore the "B". The "A" and "B" for your fronts are so you can hook up two sets of front speakers. For all your speakers, keep the gold connector plates in place.
For your center, I would recommend setting it as small. For your fronts, I was watching the DVE HD Basics yesterday (boredom) and it said that if you have a subwoofer to set your fronts to small so the sub handles all the low frequencies. If I were you, I would try it both ways to see what you like, and remember to test it with both movies and music. I've got a Denon 2308CI and Klipsch synergy speakers, so here's what I have for the fronts: Set to large, but hooked in through my sub, w/ the crossover setting there at 40Hz. I'm getting ready to move, and when I do that I'm going to mess around w/ that. I'll be hooking the speakers directly to the rcvr, then try the small and large settings, etc. Let me know what you end up liking best. |

Do you have an Auto Calibration on your receiver? Ive done the same thing, played with the settings. So i finally decided to listen to the Auto Calibration and it actually tells me to run my Fronts at 200 hz! I was shocked since they can put out much lower, but I guess thats how they run in my room. Still sounds good but i think im going to change it again so that more bass is coming from my fronts again...

Thanks for all of your help! I believe that the monster cables that I mentioned in the OP are built as jumpers (because they start from 1 red and split to 2 reds and do the same with black). I guess this means that I'll just keep the setup as it stands. I'm going to stick with keeping the center as small (even though it has dual 6.5" woofers and a 1" tweeter), and will play around with the fronts (they are dual 8" woofers and 1" tweeter). I have an awesome sub, so will probably keep them as small as well....too many options!
I'll keep checking up on the thread if anyone has anything to add. Thanks again! |
