As much as I like the romance between Padme and Anakin (and I do love it since I'm a hopeless romantic), I still prefer the banter and silent moments between Han and Leia. Irvin Kershner did a great job with that in The Empire Strikes Back.

Thread boycott. It's 2020.
Acknowledge Han & Greedo(!) Yes it may have been short lived and explosive, but it was a romance for the ages! ![]() Seriously though. Han & Leia are the only legitimate romantic couple you can choose. Anakin & Padme just didn't quite feel naturally set up and far worse than that is the forced stupidity of Ben & Rey. In fact, i would personally argue that we were denied the first ever proper interracial couple in Star Wars main characters when they nixed Rey & Finn who they started off in that direction in TFA. I know some of you will mention Rose hut that crap don't count to me. |

I don't even like Leia and never did, but I must admit that the Han/Leia romance was performed and directed flawlessly in Empire. So good.
(In Return, it got a bit clunky, though, which testifies that it really was Kershner, and his willingness to let the actors find the right way, that made the romance as good as it was.) Anakin and Padme was so-so: some moments were more persuasive, some less so. |

Han and Leia had the best chemistry, and their relationship developed naturally through their respective character arcs. It's the most sublime of the series.
Anakin and Padme are characters I like, but their chemistry (influenced by the writing and acting) falls flat. I don't even consider Ben and Rey to be a thing, romantically. They spend most of the movies as polar opposites. It is interesting how they push and pull on each other, but the way they do so is platonic. I have a feeling these two were borrowed out of either Lucas' treatments or the EU novels involving the Solo twins--Ben and Rey act more like brother and sister in my view. The sparks between Rey and Finn (and Finn and Poe) felt more real. |
