How come some films being currently being released are still ONLY coming to DVD and not Blu?? Is it a contract thing?? Or i was also thinking that they might have been planning HD DVD and then it flopped and couldnt get the release in time for Blu...

the only major movie releases that are still not coming out on blu are those by universal.
this is because it takes time to get blu-rays produced and shipped, they have pledged support behind the format. their first blu-ray will be doomsday at the end of the month. paramount also had to delay some releases for blu like cloverfield and there will be blood, but i believe they are all caught up now. |

Yeah.. just the best sellers are due out on Blu-ray, or the ones they think will sell well. At least for now.
Smaller titles, indy films, and obscure classics are not likely to get Blu-ray treatment right away. I don't expect some to ever make it to Blu-ray. Movies like Rock & Rule were painstakingly restored from multiple sources, many of them of less than ideal quality. Films that need such a huge restoration are unlikely to ever be restored to BD quality. |

I think as remakes, sequels, and prequels are being made for theaters. You will see the orginals start to come out on Blu-Ray. For instance I think we will see the Nighmares and Friday the 13th's come out closer to the prequels being released.

Unfortunately, even some middling films by major studios are not being released on Blu-ray if they didn't fair well at the box office... Southland Tales (sony) and Funny Games (wb) come to mind.

The reason is right now most studios don't want to release little known films or films that did poorly at the box office. When Blu-Ray grows and gets adopted by more people, those films will come.
