Arrow New Footage from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog

Quote:
Frogless has uploaded a clip from the television show/special Backlot Buzz which has John Lasseter talking about and showing clips from Disney’s upcoming return to hand drawn animation, The Princess and the Frog. The footage includes a bunch of new never-before seen footage, including our first real look at the film’s villain. At the end of the clip Lasseter says that “To actually see a hand-drawn animation this well done is like seeing something brand-new again.” I definitely agree. After the last decade of mostly computer
animated films, this return to classic-Disney hand-drawn animation feels so new and magical.
Anyway, click on the pic above to check out the footage and to read more about the movie.

Hmmmm...nice to see the ol' 2d animation make a comeback but I'm still a bit iffy on this one.

agreed, I love how 2D animation is coming back. Disney was always great at that.

Is it not the last 2D animation movie Disney is planning to do?

No. Lasseter is committed to producing hand drawn animation.

The move is part of an effort by Lasseter, who joined Disney last May with the $8.06 billion purchase of Pixar, to focus Disney's Burbank-based animation unit on hand-drawn films. Disney had closed its 2D studio in Florida and abandoned the format after 2004's ``Home on the Range'' flopped.

Yes, thankfully there's been a regime change since the studio lost its collective mind and abandoned traditional animation; this should be the first of many more hand-drawn features to come, and I look forward to it very much.

Ah I see! I was probably remembering the pre-Lasseter take over of the animation studio. Great news then.

John Lasseter is the best thing for Disney since Walt.

Now release the Ghibli films on Blu-ray!!! Just give me Spirited Away and I'll be happy for a year...

The problem with Disney's Hand Drawn Animation films, was not the animation techniques, or even the high cost, it was simply a matter of poor story choice and execution of their movies.

Lilo and Stitch was probably their last successful animated movie.

Home On The Range was a bad movie.

Brother Bear was a mess (was it a movie about native american culture, a coming of age movie, a SCTV skit? - Actually it was a little of everything)

Treasure Planet was a really neat idea, but in some ways was too "high concept", and then they threw in the silly robots.

By the end of the Eisner era, Disney Animations were politically correct and "diverse" but the underlying stories were very weak.

Pixar, on the other hand, bases it movies on good stories, and doesn't PC them to death.
