Default Is there a need to timber match your subwoofer

I am looking at a Velodyne subwoofer it is $500 at Future Shop the model # is DSP 12B it is $ 200 off. I am wondering if you have to timber match your your sub to the rest of your speakers. I have read that you don't but I want to be sure. I really want to pick the sub up because it is such a great deal but I don't want my set up to sound off. So people please chime in and let me absorbe some more home theater knowledge. Thank you!

All i did was adjust my sub to my likeings. More bass/less bass, close to the wall/further out from the wall. Just play around with it, but I wouldnt go with out it.

No, it is absolutely not necessary to timbre match a sub.

That's absolutely correct...... another thread was stating the composition of the woofer etc. etc.... but in the end, it's not producing various "tonal" sounds, it's playing low frequencies...... so their really is no "voice" to the subwoofer.....

Key elements of a subwoofer....

Ability to get low without distortion, and it's speed.....

Velodyne's are great for the money also, so don't worry about timbre matching it to the rest of your speakers (over-powering is a whole other thing)

Nope don't need to timber match since its at low frequencies. And owning a different brand of sub from my towers/center I can attest that it isn't necessary.

the subwoofers main purpose is to provide the lower end of the spectrum when it comes to sound reproduction. it does not provide any significance when it is matched to any considerable speaker.

although i highly suggest using a spl meter to get the best of your fronts and your subs to blend properly.
