Thank god this format is coming. I have been following its progress for somtime now, and these new caddy discs are a dream come true. Why CDs where ever originally removed from caddys only the capitalist idiots will know.
I have put of buying a dvd player fullwell knowing the poor life of dvds. Its pretty obvious the dvd is a dieing breed and soon the world will be up in arms that they will have to replace there whole cd and movie collection with a more perminant media, who wins???????????? the record and movie companys (its a conspiracy). DVD - Nothing wrong with the format just may as well sold them etched on vinal Hail Blu-ray give us somthing i can leave on my desk and nolonger have to worry about the smallest insignificant scratches causing corrupt playbacks. Kids play with them as you like. ![]() ![]() ![]() I will be 1st inline to buy one. which one i dont know yet lol. Andy UK |

Mmm, well, its quite sad, but, the cartridges are going to be removed, and I don't think the Blu-ray media will last longer than DVD or CD
![]() However, what people need is a high capacity, 1 TB or more. On a stable, unscratchable format that lasts more than 100 years... There are many musea's who are loosing data now... Millions of euro's are lost every year. And a format war isn't going to solve it! :!: |

![]() I don't see the professional data version [PDD] playing without a caddy, but 1TB on blu-ray - whether scratching the surface or waving goodbye to that and using the bulk material - is still several years off ... One potential advantage of well-engineered holographic storage is that, by distributing the information through the media it has the potential to be much more robust than surface (and layer) - based technologies such as BD/HD-DVD/DVD/CD/MO/MD/HD/FD, etc. (you may have heard of them). Thermal and hydrometric etc. stability issues of the recording media will still have to be taken into account, of course, but at least by leaving the surface issues of chemical attack may become less significant. 8) |
