Best way to handle HDDs? - Blu-ray Forum

Hey guys, I am ordering a new HDD for my PS3 and I was just wondering what is the best way to handle HDDs so that it does not get damaged during the installation process because I know they are prone to static electricity or something like that right? Any tips would be helpful. Thanks.

On another note, how come the "off-topic discussion" forum does not show up every time I am on bluray.com because that is where I would have placed this topic.

You have to be logged in to the the off topic section.

Carpet can make static so rooms without carpet can be better.

If you get all your stuff ready and then touch something metal you should be free from static and then do the work.

Otherwise,.. don't throw the drive much and try not to drop it.

Definitely ground yourself by touching something metallic to discharge any static before handling the HDD. Also, definitely handle the HDD you're about to install by holding it by its casing (almost always on the top and sides of the drive). DO NOT touch the circuit board on the bottom of the HDD or the connector's on the backside if you can avoid it, but if you've discharged the static earlier then it shouldn't be a biggie.
