not to step on VR users, but, i do hope they make a standard version for Xbox & Playstation for non-VR users like me. i really want to play this, but, i'm not going to buy a whole new anything to do it. i have an Xbox One and i'm really hoping for a release of this game on it. even if that's down the road. not sure what the VR users market is for the games financial success, but, i'll sure add to their purses if they release it for the Xbox in a non VR format.

also, playing half life, i'm sure 75% of the men and 22% of the women playing it had a hard on for Alyx and i was one of them for sure!

VR isn’t my thing and this won’t change that. But if you were to tell me that Portal is coming to VR...

You want an instant motion-sickness device?

serious question, for those who play, follow or know about VR gaming, do people often hurt themselves or damage things while playing these games?

i'm trying to imagine being so caught up in it that I don't realize how far I've walked and damage my tv or walk into my speakers or of course, hurt myself.

i'm just wondering if these things are potentially part of playing with things over your eyes giving you an altered sense of reality and messing with your equilibrium.

I still really want this game and hope they release a non VR version. I think i'm gonna have to play some Half-Life 2 on the Xbox One, having seen this thread, watched the video. you know, for old time sake!

Ha, yes! One of the first things I would do would be to create in infinite portal loop and jump right in.

This seems kinda like a "not quite as bad but still pretty disappointing" version of Blizzard announcing Diablo Immortal.
Especially after waiting for HL3 for SOOOOO long

I'm really excited about this game. I won't be playing it since I don't have VR headset and won't be buying it. But this game is huge news for Half-Life fans. If this game is popular and will be received well, Valve might actually decide to make new games in Half-Life universe, maybe even HL3. They even hinted that in Geoff Keighley video.

Could it be Valve waited this long because they had VR in mind all this time, since 2007?

I so want to play this game, but here also I do not have a VR headset nor a beefy enough PC.

You're way off.

I don't have a VR set, but this still looks amazing. And it's no surprise Valve is trying to get VR off the ground, and set a course for its long term success with a title like a new Half-Life, considering what they've invested into the Vive.

Yeah I don't see the connection to Diablo Immortal. VR isn't my bag but it's nothing like mobile gaming. I can actually see the appeal and the value of VR.

I have played a lot of VR, including some games where you have to move around, and have never hurt myself. I've bumped into things as I don't have a lot of space, but never hurt myself. I'm sure you could, but just clear out enough space or be very aware and careful of your surroundings. Most VR games can be played seated with minimal movement that's out of the ordinary for gaming.

This is the type of nonsense that puts people off. Motion sickness can be easily overcome by just easing your way into VR and relying on game settings until you are comfortable. It’s been blown out of proportion.

Except for some people it is very real and there's nothing to be done about it. There are some games I get motion sickness from and there's no easing into it. The only way to make it stop is to stop playing and for some people that's just how it is with VR.

Most people are unaware that games have comfort settings. Heck, some game reviewers review games without realising that. Some review site did that a while back and was made a laughing stock.

I didn’t say it wasn’t real, I stated that in most cases it can be overcome.

If you are into VR, it’s huge news. There has already been a huge spike in Vive headset sales. Expect the Quest to do very well also. If you have a good gaming pc you can connect the Quest to play Half Life (or any other VR game) via a cable. That’s a huge selling point.

Not long now until reviews appear. The respected UK magazine Edge gave it 9/10 apparently. I believe it will be another Valve milestone, possibly testing the VR waters, and perhaps then going that route for HL3. Although that's probably still years away, assuming it is true. But HL3 will come out, it's just a matter of time, but knowing that Valve is probably acutely aware of how huge the previous games were, it is likely they just didn't feel they could take it to the next level. With the advent of VR, perhaps that time has now come. Although the possible issue of mass adoption of the VR format will still remain. Right now I cannot play this new game, my only hope is PS5 VR.
