Default Questions and looking for help

Newbie, here but long time reader of the site. First this is a gret site and I appreciate all of the information everyone has put up! A little background. I put in a dedicated Home Theater in Dec 06. At the time, the format war was in full swing with no winner. My theater company told me not to pick sides at the time. However, I was digging the Blu Ray stuff I'd seen at Best Buy and actually viewed HD-DUD on a friends set up. Blu Ray looked like a better product from my point of view! Spiderman Trilogy came out and a said OK let me speak with my dollars and support Blu Ray. So I picked up a Sony BDP - 300 player and had the theater company put it in. They fought me left and right saying it wasn't over and beware of the porn industry support of HD-DUD! Well, they were wrong and with each domino that fell, Warner, Netflix, Best Buy and Walmart my wife got sick of the updates, but I new I picked right!!!! Also, my projector is only 720p, but can tell a huge difference when I upgraded to the Blu-Ray player. Just trying to figure out the finances to upgrade to a 1080p projector. So now the questions:

1. On a couple of movies, 2 of the Die Hard flicks (1&3 bought separately not the collection) and deluxe Full Metal Jacket when watching I noticed a 1/2 to 1 inch vertical line in the far left side of the screen (92" screen). Everything in this line was blurred while the rest of the picture was Blu Ray bliss on both sides of it. I exchanged the FMJ and Die 3 at the store and it didn't show up again on the new copies. I haven't seen this on other titles like Spiderman, The Shining, POTC, FF, or others, so my assumption is the BD itself. My question is, has anyone else run across this problem, is it common, or is it just problems with those titles, or worse my issue?

2. In the Die Hard movies came a insert talking about this disc wa manufactured after my player and I need to visit www. bluraydisc.com/products/updates and to follow the instructions. When I did it seemed to involve uploading some files to a disc or something. Not being techically savy sounded way out there. So I figured this was the best time to ask the experts here. Is this something people do a lot, should I be doing it and is it really difficult?

Sorry for the long rambling post and I promise all after this will be brief. Just looking for advice and I appreciate all of it. The world will soon be a Blu place and that's an awesome thing!!

If you don't understand how to download the proper firmware update and burn to disc, just fill out the form on sonys site and they will mail you a firmware disc free. By the way what firmware version are you running? It should be v3.7, hopefully that helped.

If you turn on your player here is how to check firmware number:
1. Press system menu
2. Go down to setup press black select button.
3. Select video setup
4. Select TV Type, when you can see the option for 4:3 and 16:9, hit the blue button the version no. of your firmware will be displayed under the TV aspect ratio that you can select.

Hopefully I have not confused you, and this helps solve your problem.

Default HP Blue-ray pc player

I have an HP Blue-ray pc drive burner & player I tried to play Independence Day on it and all I got was a blue screen. Does this mean I need to update my firmware or what? Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted. Thank You SENIORFINFAN
