Default Totally New Home Theater

Hey guys this isn't a post on which speakers to get (because I already know) or which receiver I like better (narrowed it down to 3). I just need some opinions on what my fellow blu's would do.

Alright here it is, I got about $4,000 to spend on new audio stuff. I just bought a Panasonic 50PZ85u. So i'm good in video. I think I am going to get the new Klipsch WF-35 towers and the WC-24 center. This setup is about 2,000 right there. Now heres the part I am stuck on. Do I spend the rest on a matching sub and surrounds? or do I spend the rest and upgrade my current Yamaha receiver (The RX-V2500 which has no HDMI inputs or new audio formats) to the new RX-V1800 which does and use my current sub and speakers for surrounds?

I was also thinking about the Onkyo 805 which vanns has on sale for $699.99 right now.

Or the Yamaha RX-V863? or just buy a stand alone player that has internal decoding along with multichannel outputs so i can use my current receiver?

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'd go with the new AV receiver myself. Use those existing surrounds and sub. You want to have the best sound options to go with your new speakers...plus HDMI and the newer sound options from the AV receiver will definitely bring some new life to your older speakers. You can always upgrade the surrounds and sub later.

welcome to the fray!

nice choice for fronts, and the matching center speakers, oh joy!

now, a quick inquiry as to your next steps...
1. have you listend to klipsch speakers? reason im asking, is because its sort of a love/hate relationship with horns. some people like em, some dont.
2. whats your current surrounds? subwoofer?
3. your receiver?

in any case, if your current receiver cannot decode the newer formats, id go for the new receiver. i like the onkyos, but not as much as the yammys especially the 863 model. thats another beaut to add to your setup! considering the DACs on the yammys are towards MY preference, i think its a great match with your speakers. or better yet, try out the pioneer elite models, with the 92's on their way out, they're priced at around 1k right now...

you can use your current surrounds, depending on your answer to number one.

let us know how it goes! and of course, pictures!

Thanks for your reply. To answer your first question, yes I have listened tothem. I have spent the last week in magnolia at best buy and I have just fallen in love with them. Your next question, I have paradigm on wall surrounds that my dad gave me a few years back. And my sub is a polk audio DSW Pro 500. and it does a really good job. My receiver is the Yamaha RX-V2500. I do love the Yamaha look and feel. But I think I am leaning more towards the 805 now because Vanns.com has it for $699.77.

My new Panasonic plasma is amazing so i'm trying to find the best sound to go with it.

im a bit concerned when people consider price as the main reason to get a receiver, over quality. but hey, thats just me. of course we all have to consider how much we are willing to spend, but id prioritize quality over price at any given day.

the onkyos are great, but i prefer the yammies.

back on discussion,

1. keep the surrounds for now, and work with them until you have the option to swap them out with matching icons ...
2. the subwoofer... if your happy with em, why bother upgrading right?

its a matter of diminishing returns, when do we consider, reconsider upgrading our equipment, and when are content.

Ya I completely agree with you on quality vs. cost but the onkyo is normally $1100 and for it to be $699.77 while the Yamaha is still $1199.99 its kind of hard not to go with the onkyo for now. Plus the onkyo has THX certification. And the 863 was a little underpowered for the towers (105watts vs. 130watts on the onkyo). But all in all your opinions and ideas are great, I think ill stay with this sub for a while and eventually upgrade to the matching icon surrounds. Thanks again.

considering the price point, its definitely a good choice.

keep the surrounds and sub, and then later on chose to upgrade.
