Unhappy US v UK Blu seconds out - round 1!

Like many of us Blu-brothers (sorry and sisters) who seem to be comparing who gets the better deal on Blu-Ray, I myself being in the UK do prefere the American release over the British version. 90 percent of my Blu collection are U.S. discs that thankfully have been released as region free (and I hope it keeps up). Everything is better quality and I can't even moan about the Warner releases, you also have to find the right seller either on eBay or the internet who can match the dollar price too.

Pirates at Worlds End in an HMV uk store - £30 (60 dollars)
from a great seller on eBay - £12 (24 dollars)
Heroes season 1 in an HMV uk store - £49.99 (90 dollars)
from a great seller on eBay - £34 (70 dollars)

UK Blu cases are too thick, I definitely prefere the slim-cases

When it comes the extras the U.S. releases definitely rock

So when it comes to comparison the U.S. is most certainly cheaper and you guys definitely get the better Blu package overall. And don't forget us poor Brits are currently paying 9 dollars a gallon for car fuel - just don't ask us proud Brits to stick a flag in our gardens coz we can be arrested for doing this!

Yeah its $9 + a gallon, however not to get too of topic but regular gas here is 95 octane not sure what you have but when i was last in the states was 87-91. My suggestion would be don't bring your car unless it has a small engine (2litre ish) a V6 or V8 is gonna cost a fortune. oh btw a gallon here is 8 pints so you do get more for your money. For blurays here in the UK amazon, play.com or ebay are your friends

HMV and Zavvi (formerly Virgin) are currently having a competition to see whose prices can most take the piss. They have recently sunk a little bit as Blu goes more mainstream but they're still quite ridiculous. I suggest UK buyers buy online from somewhere such as play.com. Ordering US titles is also an option but beware region coding and customs & excise.

i have a 75 blu ray collection all bar 15 are American- (dam you fox for region coding) the Americans get releases way sooner and generally are better spec for the audio

for any brits looking for places to import i use

www.axelmusic.com
www.tower.com

i used to use hdmoviesource but tower.com kicks its ass on prices and delivery.

and yeh the uk cases are way to thick- i swap them out for thin ones from time to time however the inlay needs a little manipulation

I import about 98% of my blu-rays from America for pretty much all the reasons in the original post. The sites I use are
http://www.dvdboxoffice.com/966-3598266-12598271/home/
http://www.hdmoviesource.com/catalog/
www.playusa.com
www.amazon.com
HD movie source is great very cheap and are very fast shipping them across the pond. about 5 days usually.

I have never bought a Blu-ray from a high street store. The last time I looked I just s******ed and walked off. I usually buy mine from play.com, amazon.co.uk or amazon.com.

To be honest it has worked out cheaper of late to buy from amazon.com for region free (and some region A titles that I buy). I rarely buy off eBay as they are quite expensive, though eBay did prove invaluable in getting Die Hard 3 (unavailable in the UK)... I got that from "Down Under".

amazon.com CAUTION Make sure the total value of the order is less than £18.00, or it will be picked up by customs and the Royal Mail will charge £8.00 as a clearance fee. If you can send it to another member of you houshold as a gift the allowance goes up to £36.00.

amazon.com CAUTION #2 BOGOF deals on amazon.com... they list the total value of the order... not what you paid, so these are of no use whatsoever to a UK buyer, you'll get clobbered by customs.

I've placed my first order with Tower.com after the amount of praise they've been receiving. I wasn't impressed with the price of shipping as there doesn't seem to be discount for multiple items, so I paid $4.99 times three,(three items). Correct me if I've done this wrong.
That aside, I ordered Miami Vice, Pale Rider and The Gauntlet.
Miami Vice shipped a couple of hours later, even though it was listed as a pre-order.
The other two items were listed as instock and would ship in around 12 hours.
Well, that was Friday and they still haven't shipped... I'll just take it that they don't ship on weekends.
