Default Blu-ray Quality

I have noticed on various movies that the picture quality varies from scene to scene and from one movie to another. Is there anything I should look for in the back of the movie box that would identify quality of transfer or movie?

Check the user and movie reviews here before you buy. There is no "identifying mark" on movie cases for picture quality, seeing as that is all subjective.

Now, now, chaps - to those of you who will come on this thread, calm down, let's just ease off!

Nah, I've proactively cooled off any potential attackers. Check out our Movies section, organize it by "Video" rating, and you'll get a list of the highest picture quality releases, as voted by users.

You better read reviews before you buy some of the titles. I always check for the video and audio quality before i make a purchase. You can find all the info on this site.

When films are made, scenes are shot at diferent locations, at different dates, in diferent times of days and lighting situations, and with different cameras, film stocks and lenses. After the film is finished, these scenes are assembled like a jig-saw puzzle through editing and solicing them together, become a coherent movie. The clarity of high resolutions makes you see these differences in the shots more clearly.

definitely check movie reviews here, and discussions on those movies as well.... it's very subjective, but there are many movies, that are more or less "widely" hailed for their great transfers, and others that are equally regarded as just plain "bad" by the majority.. I watch a lot of movies, and buy a lot of movies, but with the format in its infancy, I use netflix to "screen" most movies before I purchase.....
