I'm so happy this is coming. I've been lusting after the German Blu-ray from Disney for the entire six months its been listed on Amazon.de, and I was crestfallen when I confirmed that Disney did not provide English subtitles for the film, because I was a little afraid it wouldn't get released here.

I'm in the same boat. I'm sure Disney was contractually forbidden from including English subs on their domestic German disc, as often happens. I was living in fear this would be DVD-only from Sony Classics, like some of their other recent titles, so I'm grateful to see it's getting a BD. It's a gorgeous-looking film and a really powerful followup to his masterpiece THE LIVES OF OTHERS.

By the way, fans of the film may like to know, the score album, which was released mp3-only last fall when the film came out in Germany, has finally been issued on CD:

Thanks for pointing this out. If I enjoy the music (and with Richter, I hope to), then I will definitely pick up the CD.

Excellent. As its not opening in my part of the world until late June I'll buy this instead. I hope it comes up to the standard of The Lives of Others rather than The Tourist though.

The film also includes an existing Richter piece called "November." It is not on the soundtrack album, which has only the new music recorded for the film. It's a shame "November" is not on the album, but it probably would have been a licensing nightmare to include.

Henckel Von Donnersmarck also mentioned two other existing Richter pieces at the screening I went to that inspired him.

There's an excellent New Yorker profile of him, following the making of the film in tremendous detail:

Strange there's still no preorder link at Amazon for this when it comes out in just over a month.

Usually they put links up within a day of announcements.

There was a pre-order up a couple of weeks ago for the Blu Ray and now Amazon have removed it. Both on Amazon & Movies Unlimited are showing the film as a DVD only release now - however from past experience we have seen films appear to have their Blu Ray release removed only to reappear closer to the release date.

Amazon has been doing this with lots of Sony titles recently, I'm not worried. Same thing happened with my preorder of Robin & Marian last fall. The purchase link vanished close to the release date, but it ended up reappearing, and my order never went away from my account and ended up shipping anyway.

The Blu-Ray pre-order just got removed again, have a bad feeling about this since tomorrow is the release date.

It's still available for pre-order at Best Buy:

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/never-l...skuId=34598809

I wouldn't worry too much yet, the exact same thing happened with Robin & Marian last fall. It kept vanishing and reappearing from Amazon, up to and, as I remember, even a couple of days after what was alleged to be the "release date". R&M ended up shipping out a few days late. By that point I had already bought another copy from Best Buy, which I then had to return. These Sony MOD discs never seem to have 100% firm release dates.

I just checked my order on Amazon and is showing as delayed. I also noticed that there were two reviews posted on the day of release that both complained about the disc having no English subtitles.

These could be referring to the German disc that a couple of people accidentally purchased or maybe Amazon received a batch from Sony, sent them out to some pre-orders and they don't have subtitles as the two reviews state.

I assume I didn't get one sent out because my order also includes half a dozen other titles that are not released until next week.

Also, is this going to be a pressed disc (or MOD as per Warners and some other Sony titles) or a 'real' MOD disc that companies sometimes dish out.

My copy also has not shipped from Best Buy, so I must assume that there is a replication delay on the title.

I'm disappointed, as I had assumed that SPC would give this one a full retail release like The Wife, but I guess Sony only have the film here, so that wasn't going to happen, especially given it's a foreign language film that didn't win the Oscar.

The one-star "reviews" currently on Amazon.com appear to be complaints about the VOD version, which is apparently in German (though the Amazon page says English) without any subtitles at the moment.

These are the three existing pieces he mentioned:

Max Richter - On the Nature of Daylight - YouTube
Max Richter - November - YouTube
09 Dona Nobis Pacem 2 - Max Richter - YouTube

I've only seen the film once, but as I remember, these are actually the standout cues in the film, so it's a shame they're not on the album, but it probably would have been a licensing nightmare to include them.
Im shocked Richter would reuse his music from The Leftovers. And November since it was so memorably used on that show.
