Default Sony ES series with Profile 2.0

Does anyone know when the next ES blu-ray player from Sony will be released? It has been a year and I am waiting for a ES player with 2.0 profile.

can't say i've heard any news on a new ES player...any particular reason you want to wait for an ES versus the new S350 and S550 (2.0) players?

The ES unit is made of glass and metal with brushed silver feet. It is a more beautiful and durable unit. The warranty also is for 5 years parts and labor. Plus all of my other components are ES. If you go to SonyStyle.com you will see that their cheaper end products are always available for refurbished purchase. Why? Because they are built poorly and tend to crap out on people. I have gone through 3 until I bought my ES DVD players. So far so good.

Default Bdp-2000es

If I can get this older player for $600, do you guys think it's a good deal? It is an ES series with a 5 year warranty but it only plays Profile 1.0 discs. I am not sure how big I am on the extra features. I just like to see a good, crisp looking movie with incredible sound.

The player is surely a tank, I would wait for the next one though if I were you. Sony rushed this out to beat the 1.1 dealine and it is sorely lacking in audio features. (no DTS HDMA support at all, along with no bitstreaming capabilities)

I surmise that marquesalan has other ES components and simply wants to his new BD player to "match" his other ES components. To me, that would be the "most logical" reason to forsake the BDP-S350 and BDP-S550 in favor of an ES unit, but I'm just guessing...

I look for an ES unit for the holidays.

ES players are fantastic players. I have a DVPS9000ES that may last longer than me. They are built like tanks.

I don't know what video processor is in the S550, but I would not be surprised to see the highest quality, like an HQV in an ES model. That might be a reason why, especially if you have a lot of DVD's it would be the best of all worlds. Plus a new ES player will definetly decode and bitstream all formats and should have gold 7.1 analog outs. The next ES should be like the next Elite, the BD player that has it all....
