The Universal Ultimate Unrated Comedy Collection featuring the 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up and Forgetting Sarah Marshall is slated for Blu-ray release on September 30, 2008.
I've been trying to find it for pre-order for awhile and I finally found this link on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Colle...6498436&sr=8-1 It looks like the DVD version, but I'm not entirely sure, since it has pricing very similar to the Blu-ray action 3 pack that Universal is releasing. I would love to pre-order this ASAP to lock in the lowest possible price on Amazon. Does anyone know for sure whether or not this is the Blu-ray version? I wasn't entirely sure that Universal was going to release this collection on DVD too or not. Thanks in advance for any productive input. EDIT: I know it says format: DVD at the bottom of the page, but Amazon has actually made this mistake more than once before since it still puts Blu-rays in the "DVD" category. |

Considering this was officially announced last week (or maybe 2 weeks ago now), I would just wait a while. The thing doesn't come out until September 30th so preordering it the instant it's up wont get it here any sooner.

Is this 3 pack even coming to DVD? Isn't it supposedto be a starter pack?
My guess is that this is the Blu (especially considering the price), but I'd still wait EDIT - forgot Universal has a bit higher Blu prices than Disney and Warner. $45 for the DVD set still seems a bit steep, but could very well be right Last edited by bajor27; 07-20-2008 at 01:38 AM. |

The comedy 3 pack contains a new release while the Action pack contains nothing but older movies. So of course its going to cost more.

Yeah, I know, I just figured with the low margins everyone is making on DVDs these days (even on new releases) that the blu action pack would go for more. Apparently not though.

Ick - I really hope that the price doesn't jump up $20 over the Action pack just because one movie in the comedy pack is a new release. Seems a bit much to me.

The 3-pack is lowering the MSRP from $99.94 to 89.98. Amazon pricing (33% discount for the catalog titles, 30% for the D&D title) seperately for the three would be: $27.95 (FSM) + $19.95 (KU) + $19.95 (40YOV) = $67.85 The 3-pack (using Amazon's 30% discount would be) $62.98. Not as good of a deal as the other packs by any means, but it's possible Amazon might discount it more. ~Alan |

All 3 of these movies are hysterical in my opinion. I saw Forgetting Sarah Marshall at the drive in. It was the 2nd movie after Iron Man(which was a fantastic movie). We decided to stick around and watch it, with very little expectations. It was not as funny as the other two in this set or Superbad, but still was pretty funny.

Just because they're comedies they don't deserve high quality picture and sound? |

1. Highly visual physical comedy -- often spectacular -- needs it. E.g. Kung Fu Hustle. 2. Any set pieces where the shot tends to go a bit wide and there's lots of detail to see onscreen at once. Stateroom scene in Night at the Opera. Those kinds of gags tend to come off better when you can see what's going on. Then there's 3. Subtle comic performances, esp. with facial expression. Bill Murray in Stripes. In high-def (was on cable recently; I'm watching out for the Blu from SPHE) it's easier to make out the twitches, face pulls, slight smirks and the rest. PS. This collection from Uni is a must-buy for me. Still haven't seen Marshall. Last edited by Teazle; 07-20-2008 at 03:22 PM. |
