Default Steven Seagal on Blu-ray

I was just thinking about the earlier films that Steven Seagal made, due to the fact that I finally picked up the more recent release of "Hard to Kill". the one thing I noticed was that the only film from Seagal's early career that hasn't been released is "On Deadly Ground", one of his better films.

There were a few films from the 90's that were pretty decent, Fire Down Below, The Patriot and Exit Wounds but not too many as he turned into a direct-DVD action star. If you have any of his films, which ones do you have and do you still enjoy watching his earlier works? For me, personally, I have everything from Above the Law through Under Siege 2. Just wish they would hurry up and release "On Deadly Ground".

ironically ON DEADLY GROUND was the first film of his that disappointed me-- the eco message was embarrassing...and the movie didn't deliver the action that his earlier efforts delivered--

my favorites--

Under Siege
Out For Justice
Marked For Death
Hard To Kill

I LOVED Under Siege....and I do have a very soft spot for Under Siege 2. Sadly, everytime I see this on sale at Best Buy, I always talk myself out of buying it.

I have all his early theatrical films on blu. the only DTV one I own is Born to Raise Hell which is one of the few "better" offerings he's done for DTV

Hopefully WB will release Fire Down Below, On Deadly Ground, The Glimmer Man and Exit Wounds soon.

also just a side bit, but did any of you know that Marked for Death started out as a sequel to Above the Law....

The one thing that I know is that just about every one of Seagal's earlier films had him as this "I'm gonna kick your ass" Federal Super Agent. He was either a Federal agent, black ops or ex-military or CIA ...

It was sad to see Seagal turn into nothing more than "DVD release of the week". The man has pumped out so many direct to DVD releases that the market has become flooded with a lot of crap films. I think this is why I continue to enjoy his earlier stuff a lot better.

After The Glimmer man, the quality of the films he was in degraded rapidly. I was actually surprised how good Exit wounds was, but then after that they got worse...

I love pre-1992 Steven Seagal movies for the same reason I loved the A-Team: a protagonist who was always looking out for the little guy, sticking up for him. A tough guy going up against tougher guys/organizations without batting an eye, selfless, confident. In short, everything I wish I could be

Out For Justice is my favorite. Under Siege is a classic action film. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

Out For Justice is indeed a classic. Seagal makes other action stars look like Cinderella in that thing.

Unfortunately, yes, his DTV work has been pretty awful. JCVD's DTV work is a lot better though, for the record.

+1

I think Out for Justice is my favorite Seagal, followed by Under Siege. There's alot more to OFJ than a straight action flick. I enjoyed all the quieter stuff (Gino's relationships with his wife, his childhood friend, and Gina Gershon's character, for example) and the supporting cast is great, plus some good dialogue and kick-ass action. Under Siege is probably second only to Die Hard, or maybe third after DH and Speed, for that kind of flick.

Bad actor with many bad movies but I guess the only cheese fest I would buy would probably be Exit Wounds.

Drudge, what a hateful thing to say. Resurrecting a topic to post a negative remark like that? While the bulk of Steven Seagal's "direct-to-DVD" films are trash, his earlier films are great action flicks. I've outlined his earlier films here:

Above the Law
Hard to Kill
Marked for Death
Out for Justice
Under Siege
On Deadly Ground
Under Siege 2: Dark Territory
The Glimmer Man
Fire Down Below
The Patriot
Exit Wounds
Ticker
Half Past Dead

While some of the DTD releases are halfway decent, it's his earlier films that are best.
