Thumbs down What was the worst video connector you ever had to live with?

Many of us here know the deal. Having a VCR or DVD player hooked up to less of its potential.

For DVD I first tested the picture difference of a coax connection vs s-video at hiome in 2003. Even THAT was remarkable. I spend the next couple of weeks watching a movie every night to experience them in sharper detail.

Crap, messed up the poll options. Here they are.

* 300 OHM twin lead or similar switch box
* 75 OHM / Coax connector
* Yellow Composite cable
* S-video cable
* Component cable (Non HD use)
* Other

Off topic, but I remember getting my new Sony Vega when I still only had a few hundred dvds, and man... I sat there and watched SO MANY dvds.... it was crazy!!! I ran out and got component video cables..... got a "progressive scan" DVD player..... wow... I thought I was special!!!! The T.V. at that time was the "big jump" in PQ...... and it really did look grand.... now I think about the PQ of that t.v. (still running strong, and looking good) and it looks terrible compared to a lowest quality 720p set you can find!

Tron3 Are you excited about the new Tron 2 movie ??

Ah yes the good old days! I thought I was something I went out and bought a 27 inch Panasonic True Black TV. 800 bucks and then I raced out and bought a Denon DVD player back in 2000. 800 bucks as well. Hooked it up to my Luxman receiver with my S-Video cable and I was in hog heaven. Had some old Polk 11T's and just blasted them. I ran it so loud the tweeter coils melted. Ah the good old days.

Worst connections?

While having a HD-DVD and BD Player I had no LCD TV yet. So I had to connect them via composite. That was not really fun. Although the picture was still better than your average DVD

From what I hear that "preview" wasn't actually a trailer. It was an example of what it could be like. I did not see the trailer but it reads like that Tron Honda commercial.

I would LOVE a sequel but would settle for the original on blu-ray at this time.

Get this my HDTV in the spare room just has coax cable hooked into it, while the SDTV in the bedroom has a HDDVR. The wife likes to record "her shows" and we can't "justify" the expense on the other TV. It is to big for the bedroom or I would just say switch them...

run a really long HDMI cable to the big screen out in the spare room.

(they do make flat cables, run along a wall?)

Can you get video through both a coax out (bedroom) and a HDMI (spare room) out at the same time? Also, I would have to go up two flights of stairs to change the channel....

Network the DVR's and if you must use coax use quad shielded.

How would networking the DVRs help?

You can watch recorded shows on any DVR to any other DVR in the house. When you bring up the list of shows it will also list the other DVR's in the house, you select the one you want and it shows the list of recordings and you select the show you want and it downloads from the other DVR for you to watch.

The TV in question is hooked directly to coax.

You "only" have to add a network connection to each location. You do not disconnect your coax feed.

What we have are 3 TIVO's, an HD-DVR and a Linux server all networked.

It is an HDDVR on one TV and straight coax to the HDTV?
