Question Box Office this week! How much will The Dark Knight make in Weekend 2?

Okay, we all know that The Dark Knight will be number one this weekend again, but there's an interesting race for number 2. First we have Stepbrothers with Will Farell. It's currently 100% at RT (7-0). Then we have the X-Files 2 (not yet reviewed).

Disagree that The Dark Knight will be number one again?

Make your picks!

My picks:
The Dark Knight - $60 million
Stepbrothers - $20 million
X-Files - $19 million

You have such little faith in The X-Files?

I'm going to go see it, but marketing has been on the minimum (IMO). I think it could be as high as $25 million. The first one opened to $30 million and that was 10 years ago. Not sure really how high the awareness is on this.

(I've read prognosticators predict from $14 million to $25). The problem lies in the hefty competition. The Dark Knight, X-Files and The Dark Knight (not to mention most all the movies in the top 5 last week are aimed at the same demographic).

BTW-X-Files 2 had a production budget of only $35 million this time around. It will easily double and maybe triple that almost insuring the third movie to be released on 12/12/12.

I think TDK will hold around low 60M, X-Files 35-40M, and Step Brothers 20-25M. X-Files has a huge cult following and will have a great opening weekend, and then swiftly have the bottom fall out.

marketing for the x-files has been better than the dark knight in some cases. just last night alone i saw 10 commercials for the x-files movie in a 4 hour period. in that same period i saw two for the dark knight and i haven't seen that many commercials before the dark knight came out. they're really doing a nice job with promoting the x-files. plus adult swim is going ga ga over it and giving it their seal of approval. that's going to help the x-files a lot. i'm going to say the x-files will do about $20-25 million. i think step brothers will do around $40 million. and i think the dark knight will do about $60 million.

well yes, but mama mia isn't the x-files. you can't compare the two. one is a hit broadway musical while the other is the best show put on television with the two single best characters ever written. it's smart, witty dialog along with it's feet firmly planted in reality makes x-files the movie to beat this year for best movie of the year. mama mia just doesn't even come close. not by a longshot.
