Dark Knight - New Actress for Rachel?

Well, they've replaced Katie Holmes with Maggie Gyllenhaal:

What do you guys think?

I personally would have liked to have had Katie stay just for continuity sake; however, I always thought she seemed a bit young in that role. I feel that Maggie "fits" the role better.

My son doesn't like the look of her and said, "Why did they pick someone so old?!"

Maggie has never had a "young" look to her (although she looked pretty good in Donnie Darko and Secretary), but she is a good actress and I think she'll be a good fit for the Batman movie(s).

Either way, the studio obviously realized that it is Nolan and Bale are what make these movies and don't mind the replacement.

So, is she a good pick?
Should they have waited for Katie?
Who would have been better?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say we won't miss Katie that much.

Katie talked out of the side of her mouth too much. I thought she was a little annoying too. However, I'm not sure Maggie Gyllenhaal will be that much different... Hopefully she can talk normally.

Although I don't think that Maggie will have the sexual appeal to most people as Katie, I'm glad they cast her instead. To me, she is wwwaayy more appealing than any of those supermodel actresses that look like they smoked about 2 pounds of crack before they starting shooting a film.

maggie is sexy in her own way... katie holmes was too stiff for my tastes. good choice by nolan.

The reason why they recast Rachel Dawes (from what I know) is that Katie Holmes didn't want to come back to do the Dark Knight, because of her thetan level or something. So instead of the really good looking girl who can act, Nolan got a good looking girl who can really act.

Maggie=upgrade.

maggie is going to be good in this movie. She's a very good actress and can be very sexy. She was pretty sexy / good in Stranger than Fiction with Will Ferrell. She will be much better than Katie Holmes

That's funny guys - I never really thought about the "talking out of the side of her mouth" thing, but it's very true.

I think halfway through the movie you'll forget there is even a new actress.

Hate Katie...only reason to keep her was continuity...but not worth it.

Love Maggie, although not sure if she's right for this specific part...guess I'll find out when I see it in IMAX

EDIT: wow...after reading though more, looks like it was a good thing that Katie didn't come back

...and yes, Maggie is definitely sexier and a better actress.

they went from an okay actress to a great actress. that makes me happy, not too much else plays into it ultimately.

Maggie is not very attractive IMO (looks too much like Jake), and a downgrade as Wayne's love interest. She may be a better actress than Katie, but who cares... it's a Batman movie.

I compare it to casting Paltrow as Stark's love interest in Iron Man. They couldn't find anyone hotter than her?
