Default Question about Digital copies

Though I'm not a newbie myself, I think my question belongs here.
It's about the so called digital copies, what do they mean by using those words exactly ?

If you take it literally, any CD, DVD, HD-DVD or Bluray with a movie on it or just music or pictures or anything IS A DIGITAL COPY

so what is specifically meant when they say that such film comes with a digital copy ?

thanks for shedding some light

Well as far as I know it's a copy of the movie you can save to your computer and use on any portable device. I.E. ipod, psp, etc. Idk what else, if any, you could use it for. Since your not able to do that with every movie or media type. Well, some of them you can't unless you use a program, but that's a different story. LOL

I wasn't sure this warranted a reply, he questioned the terminology used by the studios as to why they label them "digital copies." Its just an appropriate term chosen by them. Its like questioning why the sky is blue or the ocean is salty.

It did warrant a reply. I did indeed question the terminology which is IMO flawed because anything in a Bluray or any other digital medium IS A DIGITAL COPY so nothing to do with your "blue sky" analogy which only applies to one thing: a sky that is blue
Then I also questions the meaning of it so thanks to those who answered my question
