Default Smallville Season 6 Blu-Ray

Hello,

I'm currently living in Ireland and unfortunately Warner Bros have not started releasing Smallville on Blu-ray for the Europe region.

What I am wondering is, if I order Smallville Blu-ray from Amazon US, will it play on my PS3 which I bought here in Ireland? I know there is a region coding system on Blu-ray discs similar to the one on normal DVD's. However it seems to be a little inconsistent in how it is applied. For example I've bought a few Blu-ray discs here (legally) and some have been encoded for regions A, B and C, while others have just been region B.

I'm not sure if Smallville Season 6 Blu-ray is region encoded or not. Anyone here know for sure?

Thanks

You're in luck mate, so far ALL Warner Bros titles are region free. I have Smallville season 6 myself and it is region free - also season 7 is out soon.

That's good to know, cheers.

Yep, Season 7 is out in September so it will be nice to be able to buy it on Blu-ray hopefully.

yeah, it works fine - I brought it back from New York for my brother, he told me the quality is great.

Use this site to check the region status and then order away,

http://bluray.liesinc.net/

I have about 115 blu rays, I 've only bought about 40 of those in Ireland, the rest I imported from America

One thing i feel compelled to point out is that the Smallville Blu-ray is not very impressive. Me and my friend compared the DVD of Smallville Season 6 to the Blu-ray (we compare the DVD and Blu-ray of most movies and the difference is usually significant) and the difference was almost not noticeable. The sound is just flat out DVD sound to. The only real improvement was that the subtitles were clearer. There really is virtually no improvement in the Blu-ray version. I'm only pointing this out because the cost of importing is often significant.

While I thought the BD was very sharp (and with the sharpness came the grain ) and made me to instantly want to buy all other TV series on BD.

Ditto!

It's the only series I own, so want it in the best quality possible! I think the Blu-ray of season 6 was a step-up, but not as much as it could have been. I blame HD DVD for that though, so I'm hoping with the lack of that obstacle for season 7 that there will be some improvement...

The fact they're cramming 7 episodes on 1 disc is alarming though...

FYI Amazon UK have released pre-order details of Smallville Season 7 on standard def and Blu-ray. It's being released on the 13th of October. I don't know if this means the US Blu-ray version released a month earlier will be region locked or not.

I would have to disagree with you as Smallville DVD series are notorious for EE and compression artifacts. The blu-ray version (and hd-dvd version for season 5) were free from both of those for the most part. Sound-wise, the DD track was still much more expansive then what you would hear on dvd or TV. DVD remains blurry to me, even if I am watching on the supposedly best upconverting player, the hd-xa2.
