Radioshack has this center speaker for $20. Is this a good speaker and worth the $20? It is a 2-way speaker and I currently have simple Sony HTIB speakers (DW995 and an Onkyo SR605). Would this do a better job that my current center?
Thanks! |

Thats a good price for that speaker. I'm showing it costs $78 on amazon.
Dunno if its a great speaker or not. But for $20 its worth a shot. I would imagine that the speakers could be used as L/R Mains too. Has to be better quality that a HTIB. Heck I may swing by radioshac on the way home and see if they are $20 in my area, could use a center in my bedroom. I bought NS-C225 back in January and love it. Its about $50 more($120). Pushing it with an Onkyo SR-705 and it sounds great. |

The first reason is that ideally you want to timber matched your center speaker to your front speakers. This not easy to do and usually people get the front speakers from the same manufacturer (and same model line) to ensure this. The second reason is, well, if you pay 20$ for a speaker, you're getting 20$ worth... I'm not saying that paying more will necessarily mean that the speakers are good but at that price you won't be getting much. Instead start saving money for some nice speakers that will last you for many years. You already have some HTIB speakers, keep those and save some money and when you're ready, get some speakers that will be a significant step up from your current system. This way you'll save some money in the long run and you'll enjoy your system even more. Remember when buying speakers the first thing to look for is the sound, you want speakers that sound good and that meet your budget, you're not buying speakers because they're the cheapest ones you could find. |
