Default MacBooks with Bluray players

I love my MacBook Pro, and I've been waiting to upgrade it, but bluray player is a must for me. Does anybody in the forum has any idea of when Apple will start selling the new MacBooks with integrated bluray players or/and recorders?

MacWorld is January 5th-9th, I think that's the earliest we could expect to hear an announcement. I have a G5 that's about 5 years old and I'm waiting for built-in Blu so I can upgrade.

You could always buy that $800-900 slot-loading Blu-Ray drive from FastMac or whatever they were called. Then you'd just have to put BootCamp/Windows on and get Cyberlink or your preferred BD playback program.

EDIT: *IF* you have a newer MBP with the 8600 or higher in it.

I am keeping my fingers crossed. Word on the streets is new laptop are coming out around the 16th of September so hopefully we will see some blu ray loving from Apple then. What I don't understand is if Apple being onboard with blu ray since day one, why haven't we seen any blu ray products from them even by now over half way done with 2008?

I purchased my iMac 3 months ago and the service reps said it could be up to a year before macs have Blu-ray drives as options.

One Apple rep told me they were having problems with overheating with the BD drives, don't know if that's the holdup.
