Default William Friedkin's Cruising [1980]

Wondering if whoever owns UA films would ever release this very controversial film.

Loved Friedkin's works from the 70s/80s as he seems to court debates over the subjects of his movies, and this one was no exception.

I owned the DVD and was fascinated by the making of Cruising, how the gay population in NY made it quite difficult for them to finish the film and the backlash it caused when released.

Al Pacino plays a police officer who goes undercover to investigate and capture a serial killer who is going to the BDSM underground joints and murdering unsuspected gay victims.

Wasn't it released by Warner on DVD?

Probably the same person blocking this, blocks The Devils as well

Be keen for it but also a directors cut with the excised footage if it still exists

Friedkin needs to push to get this released. He's always pasionate about getting his movies out there.

Apart from that the notorious missing 40 minutes served little narrative purpose, Friedkin described it a pure porn, he also has no interest in locating the material.

I'd like to see this on Blu, the movie is a fascinating time capsule even if it is rather muddled as a thriller. It can't make up its mind where it comes down on Pacino's character or the gay leather/BDSM scene in general. A documentary which lends some context as to why the film was so opposed by many in the NYC gay community at the time, would be good.

After seeing an original print this evening (and being completely caught off-guard by just how many changes Friedkin made to the film's look between 1980 and the 2007 DVD release), I'd love to see either Criterion or Shout! Factory get the Blu rights to this just for HD releases of both the original edit and the Friedkin remaster.
