Default Worth getting a BC-equipped 80gig before they're all gone?

As much as I love the next-gen-ness of MGS4, GT5P, Uncharted etc. there are still a lot of PS2 games I like replaying now and then like SotC, Ace Combat 04, Okami, Persona 3 (looking forward to P4), ZoE 2nd Runner, etc so the indications from E3 that Sony is no longer going to offer PS2 BC in new PS3 units has me a little concerned.

I love my launch-era 60GB PS3 to bits and it's spoiled me with only having to use one console for PS1, PS2, and PS3 games with the added benefits of upscaling and virtual memory cards. So now I'm wondering if it's worth getting an MGS4 PS3 bundle while they're still easy to come by.

What do other people who like BC think? Also, is it pretty much a certainty that the new 80GB PS3 SKU for $399 will not have PS2 BC? (The stuff I've read heavily hints at it but I don't recall seeing any official press release or similar).

Well I think you just answered your own question.
If you like replaying your PS2 games, get a PS3 with BC. (I believe you should go to your local stores to get it now because I know my Best Buy's and Wal-Mart's have recieved the 80GB MGS4 bundle, meaning Sony shipped out their shipment already)

I plan on buying GoW1&2 before I get GoW3.
I did the same with MSG2&3, I used to have 'backups' but since I got a PS3 with BC, I went to EB and snagged MGS2&3 to replay it.

I personally like BC, only because, my PS2 is on the verge of death. If you have a good working PS2, then getting a PS3 without BC is totally fine too.

I have the 80gb and love it. If you want a extra PS3 for BC go for it.

The new 80 GB PS3 is simply the 40GB PS3 but with a new HDD since it's cheaper to get a 80GB HDD than it is to get a 40GB nowadays anyways.

I believe they will introduce Software Emulation BC in the future, but it's just an educated guess on my part and Tretton has said that there'll not be BC on future PS3s (but he also said a lot of wrong shit before too).

It's worth getting if you want to be 100% sure you'll have a BC PS3.

i hear the thing is like a tank? I have a 40gig and am not too happy with it. The fan kicks in overdrive only about 30 min after i play and it's well ventilated. Plus i had the controller disconnect issues and sent it to sony and still get disconnects. They told me to send it back...prob to switch the bluetooth transmitter??(i dunno). I wanted the 80gig for a long time anyway just got too eager and bought the 40gig when the 80gigs were hard to find.

Thanks for the info. I've been thinking about getting one. I don't really use the BC (only have 3 PS2 games that I bought just to try it) but for whatever reason, it bothers me a little that if I bought another PS3 at some point, it wouldn't have the same capabilities as both of my 60-gig PS3s. So, I've been thinking of grabbing one of the 80-gig ones before they're gone. Seems to be the closest match.

Don't forget, the 80gb also has 2 more USB ports and SACD support! I...think the 80gb still has SACD support...

I have a 60gb launch system and the controller disconnect issue plagued me from Day 1. I tried everything, including purchase of a different wifi router. Nothing helped.

The solution? Dualshock3! With no other changes, switching to Dualshock3 did the trick -- haven't had a single disconnect since then.

It does but the upcoming 80 GB will be similar to the current 40 GB version that has no SACD support.

Yes, the 80gb (for PS2 games) MGS4 Bundle was why I got hooked up with my PS3 and I haven't looked back.
